I'm finally breaking down and buying a real video capture card. After a year of suffering using the DC-10 from pinnacle in win98, and the last few months struggling to use winDVR, I've decided to buy a real card that will capture video without giving me a headache. I'm willing to spend up to 300 dollars for the card, but there are a few things I'm looking for.
I'd like the card to capture using either MJPEG, or DV format, not MPEG1 or MPEG2. The reason being that I've had enough problems with the mpeg codecs, and I convert everything to divx anyway, so I'd prefer to use a minimal amount of compression when I capture in order to keep the quality high, and the size within acceptable limits.
I'd also like to be able to specify the resolution the card should capture at. I know this is more of a software issue with some cards, but I'm sick of only having two or three options for resolution.
So far I've looked at a few canopus products that use firewire interfaces, but they don't seem to capture below 720x480. I'm primarily planning on using this card to capture broadcast television, which is around 460x360 I believe, and VHS. I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone may have as to what would be a good card for this sort of thing. Thanks in advance.
