I'm looking to buy my first car soon, something simple like a Sunfire, Cavalier, Civic or something like that.

Anyone here know any good sites for reviews and comparisons for cars like this?

Edmunds.com and Epinions.com are very good sites. What is your budget for this car? I think that, once you read a couple reviews, the civic will seem to be your best choice. The cavalier, and the sunfire aren't exactly great cars, and they don't have the quality of the civic.

Try cars.com, nada.com and kellybluebook.com. I may have miss-spelled the last one (kelly may have only one "L").

I think all of them will give you MSRP, invoice price, and info about horsepower, weight, etc. Some have reviews also.

Also, Kiplingers (hard copy mag) used to put out an annual review of cars each October. It may be on their site, but I've never looked there.

Good luck

I'm starting to think I'm going to get a used car, since it turns out my college bill is going to be huge, so I want to keep the price down. I just need a reliable car thats pretty good on gas.

I'm looking to spend a max of $14000 CAD$. If I go with something new I will have to put it on payments, and I would rather just pay it in full right away iykwim.

Not that great, I think somewhere around $9000.

BTW, thanks for the links so far...

that's a pretty good amount. You could probably get a 97-98 civic EX for that much if you look in your local classifieds.

Now the question is, what do I trade off... just so you guys know, I don't really care about looks that much. I'm looking to get through college with as LITTLE expenses as possible.

The question is, do I spend the money on a civic with a few more km's on it, or do I spend the same amount of money on a sunfire or cavalier with less km? From what I have seen, for my price range I can get a 1998 civic with around 100, 000km or a Sunfire 1999 with around 50, 000 km.

What would you guys choose?

The civic will have less maintenance problems in the future, it'll last a VERY long time, and it's well designed. Also, gas consuption is great.

Try www.carreview.com.

The Civic will be more expensive, but it is a better car. Drive them back to back and push them a little while you're test driving. There's no way you won't agree.

I personally like the Civic HX coupe because it is less expensive than the LX and has a lean-burn VTEC-E engine and alloy wheels (Even the EX has steel wheels standard). If you can live without power windows (it still has cruise and power locks standard, with keyless entry available), take a look.
