Knoppix is pretty sweet, it easily was the trend setter for live CD's. But pretty much every distro has a live version now. Some are even designed for very specific purposes, and others are made specifc sizes so that they can fit on mini cdr's and small flash drives. Oh, and yes, you can install a live cd and boot from the flash drive. In fact, I suggest this over a CD since it'll load everything a hell of a lot faster.
Here's THE list of Live CD Distros

I just can't believe this I want to donate to the author or pay something I will be making a donation the creator. Why do people use MS still??????? I know ALOT of programs are only for MS but so far this thing does everything.

You're going nuts over something this simple. If you had done anything complex, or really neat, your heart would explode.

yes Knoppix is cooll... hard to believe but the person in my house that is the biggest fan is my 5 year old son
(okay ...he;ll be 6 next month, but still)

for some reason he wants me to run Knoppix for him and he loves to mess around with it... and since its running off the CD only, i let him.

Question... did anyone mess with the settings and actually install this thing to HD??

My roommate installed it on one of his machines I think. It's basically Debian.

Well I'm just impressed that this is running from a CD, its FAST. And that it Detected ALL of my devices.

Is there an email program for this? I'm going to pull an old computer from my garage and do an install.

I just restarted Knoppix and pressed F2 and when the prompt came up I typed fd1024x768 orsomething like that. Just boot up and it tells you press F2 or F3 for boot options.

I'm not sure what's on knoppix but look for:
evolution
kmail
thunderbird
mozilla (it's got a mail app)
pine
mutt
elm
