I was bored waiting around in the supermarket and picked up the latest issue of Truck Trend magazine. There I saw a bib about the Knight XV, a Canadian built custom SUV on the F-550 platform.

Looks pretty cool, I've never heard of this car before.

Conquest Vehicle Inc's flagship vehicle, the KNIGHT XV defines the future of the ultra-luxurious, handcrafted fully armoured SUV. This one-of-a-kind, V10, 6.8-litre, Bio-fuel powered SUV was inspired by the Gurkha military vehicle (built by Armet Armored Vehicles Ltd.) and features security appointments that are unrivaled in today's SUV marketplace. The production of the KNIGHT XV will be limited to 100 vehicles.

Are you ready to be Knighted?

The KNIGHT-XV is an armoured vehicle and not a vehicle that has been armored. This means that unlike most vehicles that are armoured after-market, the KNIGHT XV is manufactured using military-grade armouring materials.

With its distinct size, extraordinary security features and ultra-luxurious interior appointments, the KNIGHT XV provides one of the most unique vehicle ownership experiences in today's SUV marketplace.

The innovative and incomparable KNIGHT XV takes approximately 1,500 hours to hand build with precision craftsmanship and attention to detail that one can expect from a vehicle of this caliber.

Length 240" (6096 mm)
Width 92" (2337 mm)
Ground clearance 14" (355 mm)
Height 100" (2540 mm)

The vehicle is built on a super duty specially modified Ford chassis platform (making parts and service easily accessible globally).

Engine: Ford, V10, 6.8-litre gas engine with E-85 Ethanol Conversion system added, (referring to as Flex Fuel engine) Flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) are designed to run on gasoline or a blend of up to 85% ethanol (E85). Diesel engine also available as an option.

Horsepower: 400 HP and 500 ft lbs. torque (approximately)

4 X 4: Electronic, push button 4WD

Transmission: 5- speed Torqshift automatic transmission

Brakes: Four-wheel disc anti-lock traction control

Wheelbase: 141" (3576 mm)
GVWR: 17,950lbs (8,159.09 kg)

Armored Curb Weight: The finished vehicle weight is approximately 12,000 lbs. (5,454.55 kg)

Fuel tank: 40 gallons (US) (151Litres)

Air conditioning: Factory Air conditioning in-cabin

Tires: Four LT40X13.50R20 Mickey Thompson Baja Radial ATZ with ballistic run flats

Vehicle armor: The KNIGHT XV?s armouring level varies based each client?s specific requirements

Ballistic penetration testing is in accordance with Armet's Quality Control Standards

Quality Statement: Armet records and maintains full armour material trace ability. All testing of armour plate, transparencies and composites is conducted in accordance with Armet's Quality Control Standards. Armet tests at a range of 5 metres, using factory ammunition that has been weighed prior to firing to ensure that it meets the required norms. The bullet is fired electronically through a military quality barrel with the projectile then passing through a chronograph beam to ensure that it meets the requirements of the ballistic testing standards. The armour-testing samples are maintained at an ambient temperature for 24 hours prior to testing. Samples are removed from each mill lot of armour plate prior to installation on a client's vehicle and are tested in accordance with the established norms. Upon satisfactory testing, a Certificate of Quality is issued for each sheet.

Armoured transparencies are purchased from various leading glass manufacturers. Random glass samples meeting various ballistic levels are continuously provided to Armet and are certified according to Armet's Quality Control Standards. The samples are tested and the laminate process is noted and certified by Armet as conforming to the required ballistic standards. Glass intended for a client's vehicle is inspected upon receipt and is compared to the test samples for confirmation of both lay-up and the optical zebra test. This inspection ensures the optical clarity of the glass. After confirmation of conformity, the client's glass is certified that it meets Armet's Quality Control Standards.

Most armoured vehicle manufacturers claim that they only use certified armouring materials. Whilst this is commendable, unfortunately, it is just not good enough. Manufacturers of armoured vehicles should undertake testing in accordance with a quality-testing procedure similar to Armet's .

Standard and additional features included in the KNIGT XV's armouring package:

Transparent armour: The ballistic glass used in the KNIGHT XV is manufactured only by the leading manufacturers of ballistic transparencies. Our team of designers and engineers work closely with the manufacturers of ballistic transparencies to ensure that the glass module meets the protection and tint level required. In addition, we ensure that the glass meets the requirements of our overlap armouring technique when it is combined with the installation of the opaque armour.

Opaque armour: Only the highest quality high strength steel, ballistic aluminium, composites, aramid and ceramics are used in the manufacturing of the KNIGHT XV's opaque armour, to meet or exceed established norms.

Firewall (wall between engine and passenger compartment): The KNIGHT XV armour offers protected firewall where necessary.

Doors: Due to the added weight of the transparent and opaque armour in doors, the door hinges are reinforced using a proprietary system to completely avoid hinge failure and prevent sheet metal fatigue around the hinge system.

All of the armouring materials used on our KNIGHT XV vehicle have been certified by H.P. White Laboratory, Inc. (a highly regarded US independent ballistics testing laboratory).

I think Jules' neighbours pre-ordered one and are planning on tailgating him to work everyday.

Holy shit. :Q Any vehicle smaller than a cement mixer would be punted off the road with extreme prejudice in a collision with that thing.

"Part and service accessible globally" is so not true. American full size pickups are mostly found in North America, South America, and a couple of countries in the Middle East.

The specs say they have a diesel option also, which is probably the 7.3 powerstroke. If you're worried about reliability, go that route.

I'd buy this if I was a wealthy businessman doing business in an unstable country that involved screwing over the natives.

Ford quit building that engine some time ago, it's the 6.4L
