Rondo might be the most over-rated player in the NBA - he can't make shots, period - it's like Ben Wallace playing point guard. He gets a decent amount of assists, but how many of those are even what you would call a good pass? Hitting a wide-open Ray Allen isn't that difficult, or dumping a pass into Garnett, who simply turns and shoots over a much shorter defender - big deal.

If the Celts are really trying to move Rondo - and they should be - I think it's a good move. Trade Allen (Clippers are said to be very interested), Trade Rondo for the best package you can get - heck, trade Pierce too, he still has some value - Garnett's contract is up after this year too - just re-start the whole thing - no way in hell this team does anything in the playoffs this year anyway.

Um....ok. You probably could have picked a better game to make your point, lol. 17 Points, 17 Rebounds, 20 Assists? Only the 2nd player in the history of the game to do it...

17 rebounds by 6ft 1" point guard? That is just sick. 17 rebounds and 20 assists in the same game?

Rondo overrated? LOL I've heard it all now, if anything he's one of the most underrated players in the league.

I love how atot does this all the time. Results are in and everyone comes in with that knowledge and proceeds to bash claims made prior.

Yah, if anyone thinks Rondo is overrated, they're stupid. He's a true classic PG (outside of his FT shooting) that looks to distribute and play hard nosed defense. Just because he isn't flashy like Paul or Rose, doesn't mean he's overrated. If there's anyone overrated in the game, it's CP3.

I still would have clowned the OP. If he believes the shit he spewed, that tells me he doesn't even watch B-Ball. Which means he shouldn't be talking about it. His claims can easily be bashed, because there's zero basis to them.

he already had the triple double when I posted....

That said - I still can't stand the guy - he can't shoot - it's not that he's a pass-first point guard - he simply can't make shots outside of layup range.

As for his numbers today - they are what they are - but I'll still say that maybe 2 or 3 of his assists today were above-average plays - guys just happened to make a lot of shots on passes from him - same for his rebounds - he averages 5 a game - the ball just happened to bounce his way a lot today.

He's a good defender, a good distributor, but he's still a liability offensively in a half-court game - aka the playoffs, because he can't shoot at all and isn't a good free throw shooter

Point guards better than him:

Rose
D.Will
C.Paul
R.Westbrook
T.Parker
S.Nash

I'd argue also that K.Irving, J.Wall, T.Lawson are at his level, and Rubio might be.

Obviously his numbers today look great - I still don't like his game, he's kind of a douche-bag, and I think he's an offensive liability in the playoffs. If the Celtics are going to blow their team up, I don't think he's a guy you build around. If he really needed to be motivated by hearing his name in trade rumors, then what has he been doing all season? Pouting?

How can my claims be bashed? Are you going to tell me he's a good shooter? Are you going to tell me that he's not one of the bigger locker-room headaches in the league? He's been on all-star teams - that means he is under-rated? He had no business being in the all-star game this year - Josh Smith should have taken the spot freed up by the injury to Joe Johnson.

Did everyone forget that the guy just 2 weeks ago whipped the ball into a ref's chest?

No one is saying but when Stat and Melo came back the Knicks lost their defensive advantage. When Lin was their main scorer and assists the team is much better overall.

lol... westbrook averages like 1 assist per turnover. at least deron williams averages 8 assists per game, also plays on a far worse team. WESTBROOK is the most overrated player in the NBA -- but, yes, rondo is an irritating douchebag

Westbrook and Rose are the two best athletes the NBA has ever had - not players - athletes - I can live with a higher turnover rate for 20+ points a game.

Look at Rondo's career stats - databasebasketball.com has a nice site (looks like crap though) - for every player they list similar players, statistically - Rondo's similar player list looks like this:

Winston Garland
TJ Ford
Mike Williams
Kelvin Ransey
Geoff Huston
Gary Grant
Eddie Jordan
Jamal Tinsley
Slick Watts

Westbrook is averaging 8.2 assists per game - I'd agree the turnover total is a bit high

Seph - I think the Knicks still need more time to play together - I think their best 5 on the court should be Lin/Smith/Melo/Chandler/Amare, with Novak coming in for some additional O - but I agree, this isn't their best defensive group either.

Give them a few more weeks, I think they could be an interesting matchup in the playoffs

I would argue he is pretty flashy. He makes unorthodox passes and he is able to sneak passes in where other guys can't. Yes, he can't shoot and he's immature, but "overrated" is not the right word here. He can dominate a game. Hell he has 4 triple doubles already this year I believe - in a shortened season - in which he was out 2 weeks...

But given all that, I would trade him for D.Will, Westbrook, or Rose today. Not the other two or 3 you named though. So that's not overrated. That's about where he should be - about the 5th best true point guard in the league.

@ OP I guess 20 assists is a "decent" amount :p

Why are they shopping Rondo again?

I think NBA teams often come down with the "Grass is greener" syndrome.

Granted it was against the No defense Knicks.

PS Rondo looks like an Alien.
