Knicks trade

I've seen the Portland thread, but any Knicks fans want to weigh in on the Randolph deal? Personally, I'm all for it as Steve Francis was a waste of good bench seating. I didn't particularly want to see Frye go, but it remains to be seen if he'll ever amount to more than a decent bench player in the NBA. So essentially a "has-been" and a possible "never-will-be" for a solid player (perhaps not a solid citizen though ;) ). The only problem is that Curry and Randolph will have to figure out how to coexist in the post. Also, the Knicks have a few too many frontcourt players with no offensive skills outside of 7-8 feet.

Anyone consider that the Knicks could actually work out a deal for Kobe. Granted, if I were the Lakers, I probably wouldn't take this very seriously, but if Kobe pushed hard enough for a trade...
Curry, Crawford & QRich for Kobe and Radmanovich? The salaries actually work out and Curry and Crawford are both still relatively young and inexpensive. Granted there is injury risk in QRich but you could sub him out for a roughly comparable expiring contract in Malik Rose or something. But the three Knicks would fill out the Lakers team nicely and Kobe would still get to play in a big market. Knicks also need a big man who can shoot and Radman fits the bill. That would also free up the low post for Randolph and relieve some of the glut of players that the Knicks have.

Just a thought. Don't be too harsh. :p

EDIT: Rose is a no go as he still has another year after the upcoming one. Bummer. The other two guys the Knicks got - Jones and Dickau both have expiring contracts though.

Portland needs to get rid of Randolph but the last thing we need is Francis. That trade better not happen.

so give up the best solo player in the game, for 3, overpaid, scrub, major players of the near worst team in the league. Sounds like a deal!

francis' contract in up in 2 yrs as opposed to 4 for randolph and randolph is getting paid more than francis...they'll need the money to sign the young guys. good trade for both teams imo.

Rumors are is that Francis will never even wear a Blazers uniform. They're planning on shipping him out.

For once the Knicks actually got a good deal. Portland gets a top pick in the draft and still manages to screw up. Bring back Clyde Drexler....although I'm a Warriors fan so what do I care. I just wanted that big Chinese dude, but we got a good international player....ya, another 3 guard/forward just what we need ;)

that would be good, but who would want him? he's a lot harder to move than randolph was isn't he?

Oh yeah. My fear is that the Blazers can't unload him. He's a great one-on-one talent, but his head is a mess. And he can't play defense or pass...

Good deal for the Knicks, though.

i'm glad the Knicks got that guy from Syracuse. All reports have it that he's one hell of a sharpshooter in the mold of Ray Allen. I hope they're right.

As far as Randolph, I hope we find a way to clear out some more of our roster and trade him + others for KG. I'd much rather have a real mature star than a young fat player who has a hard time finding motivation.

I didn't say it was fair to the Lakers. ;)

However, unless they get KG (or someone of that magnitude) for Kobe, they aren't going to get equal value. I also wouldn't call Crawford and Curry scrubs as they are talented enough to be starters on most teams. As for overpaid, that's debatable but their stats are actually quite good for their pay range. You can argue that they are for a bad team, but the Lakers were little more than a .500 team themselves, so are you going to discount Kobe's stats?

Curry is a decent, young offensive center (25 yo, 19.5 pts, 7 rbs). Yes, he's not exactly the defensive presence you want at center and he's not going to block shots either, but he's by no means a scrub. Crawford is also fairly young and a pretty good point/off guard (27 yo, 17.5 pts, 4.5 assists) who needs to work on his shot selection and his defense also. Again, NOT a scrub. Perennial all stars? No, but not scrubs either.

portland did not screw up...this is a good move. it will free up money and make room for both oden and aldridge and get rid of a complete asshat of a player.

I'm really torn on this as a knicks fan. As a complement to Curry, it works offensively because Zach is a good face-up player. Defensively, this is trouble, but Frye wasn't a good help defender himself. Curry isn't a bad offensive rebounder either, so he won't be useless without the ball. I looked at the west teams that were supposedly interested in Zach (GSW, DEN, SEA) and I think this move is a precursor to another. I'm hoping for Camby, because that's your ultimate complement to Curry, but either way it'll pass. Low-post scoring is a really rare skill in today's game. Teams spend years with otherwise great rosters, only lacking a guy that can get you easy baskets and finish (see Dallas).

I was so disappointed that Frye could give us literally nothing when Lee went down last year. I realize the offense wasn't geared toward him, but when your 8th overall pick can't come close to picking up the slack for your 30th overall pick, that's a bad sign. I wish him well though, he seems like a good guy.

Could be good for both teams, but is also a big risk if the knicks keep Randolph.
