Knee hurts like a #@$%

So, I run alot, and this semester I adding lifting weights, and now my left knee is starting to really get messed up. It hurts a good deal after lifting weights, and when I don't move for a long time it freezes up and is hurts to fully extend at first. So I was wondering if any ATOT doctors had a good solution for that? Should I just back off on the lifting/running for a few days, and if I do will it jsut start hurting again when I start back up? I see lots of people with knee or ankle braces, but have never used one, do those help with this sort of problem? Thanks for your help and such.

Go see a doctor. This is an problem that you might need to see a physical therapist or sports therapist about, and your doctor can refer you to one if he/she thinks it's necessary.

I have the same problem.. ran a lot.. since i work, i can't take off during week for appointment.. which leaves weekends.

last weekend, doctor took blood & xray to make sure nothing is wrong and no bone damages.. he also put me on celebrex... after 3 days, knee was better.. still feels sore.. the back of the knee..

this coming weekend, mri time..

CELEBREX is approved to treat the joint pain, stiffness, and swelling of osteoarthritis and adult rheumatoid arthritis.

edit: oh the few days before my appointment, i used icy hot a lot.. it help a bit.. plus a lot of rest..

Sorry to hear your knee is acting up.

I have had severe knee problems since I tore my ACL twice. Getting advice from doctors and thrapists have given me a cheap way of coping with knee pain from over-exertion (ie. workouts, running)....

Massage your patella (kneecap). Massage the parts that it is connected to, move it around (stretch it in all directions). Also massage behind your knee. I guess you can call it your knree-pit. Try it out and see if it helps.

You may just have something out of whack in your lower back which is causing odd pressure on the knee, or the knee itself might be out of whack a bit.

Also try the RICE that was suggested above. It may just be inflamed, in which case you need to let it heal up.

My knee was doing that a while back. When I went to the doctor he said I had bursitis in my knees, gave me a shot and a prescription for an anti-inflammatory.
