Does anyone know of a distro that will work with the KM-266 integrated video (Savage DDR) properly, right out of the box? I've borrowed a copy of SuSE 8.2 to try and have been diddling with settings in YAST for severeal days without ever getting a successful X session.
. SuSE's hardware compat pages seem to indicate that 8.2 "should" work with this video but...
. Will appreciate any info.

Tried the Linux drivers from VIA? Check this page and scroll down to the section which says Suse 8.0. The corresponding file should tell you how to set it up.

Thanks. I did go to viaarena before and printed out the instructions. But the only drivers that are available seem to apply to XF86 v.4.2.
. This SuSE 8.2 has XF86 v.4.3. I figure that if the probo site was being maintained at all, it would be talikng about the latest ver. as well.
. There was also a a brief comment that S3 was taking over the maintenance of the savage_drv.o driver and I couldn't find anything at all on the S3 site.

Where's the :sun: ?

Have you tried the driver regardless? The author has the source code posted up there. Also, try adding the following line to your XF86Config (or XF86Config-4, if you have it) Device section:

Option "UseBIOS" "no"

This fellow has a sample XF86Config up on his site and he's using the Probo driver (albeit, on XFree 4.2)
