I'd say to go ahead and try an exchange then at this point.

Okay, but here's what a Klipsch guy argued:
quote "The controllers for both the 5.1 THX and the Ultra run on a logarithmic scale. This means that if your system's volume is maxed and the control pod is at 80, you are at full volume. If system is maxed and control pod is at 70, then you are at 1/2 volume. So if your Windows setting is at 75% and the control pod is at 50, then you are only listening at 1/8 x 75% or 0.125x0.75 = 0.09375 or a little over 9% of total volume.

As i've mentioned before I keep my THX 5.1's at "70" on the control pod and just vary the volume on the digital decoder from -0dB to -15dB depending on movie and time of day.

SO, technically nothing is wrong with your speakers. Just understand the concept of a logarithmic volume scale. Just bump the control pod to about 60-70 and keep your Window's settings at 90 or so.
" unquote.

Well, I did notice the rather exponential increase in volum. So, what's you guys' take on this?

I was under the impression that it was not getting to full volume even when you turned it up. If you can get to louder than you'd want it and still have some headroom on the volume controls, then I guess I don't see the issue. I thought you were unable to get a loud volume level out of the set.

If it's just a high number on the control pod, that's pretty arbitrary.
