From the description, sounds like they are optimized for home theater, but also do well with studio produced rock played really loud.
Supposed to be forgiving of less than optimal amplification (cheap AVR?) and shouldn't need much power to play loud.
Seems like pretty decent deal at $400 shipped per pair (looks like this price shows up from time to time).
edit: I suspect Pioneer VSX-1018, VSX-01, or VSX-03 might work really well with these speakers for home theater. They were all supposed to shar same, beefy, THX certified power supply and may be able to drive these speakers to very loud levels.
