I am looking for some new speakers. I was thinking the Klipsch Promedias. What would you suggest? I am uprading one part at a time. I have not upgraded the sound card yet. Belive it or not I am still running an SB16. I don't care what y'all say, it's a great card. For so long, it could not be beat. Anyway I am planning to upgrade that next, but I don't have the cash right now. Will this work with new speakers? How will it connect? I would do the sound card first, but my speakers are crap and about to die. Half the time I turn them on and no sound. They are cheap speakers, what can you expect. Anyways, I listen to music all the time.

I have heard great things about the Klipsch's sound quality, power, and everything about the speakes. Come on, they are THX certified. What do you use and what would you recommend? I believe these are the same surrounds as the quintet series from Klipsch. In the future, when I set up my home theater, I could just buy a center and a DD5.1 decoder and have a sweet surround setup. Are any new speakers supposed to come out in the next 6 months?

I got my Klipsch v.2 400s last week. love them. I'm running a two year old turtle beach motego and they work fine with it. although I did have to use a spliter to put the front and rear speakers into the one connecter in my card. i'll be getting a acoustic edge for my new comp, does it have a hole for front and rear?

While you're limited because they are computer speakers, within the paramters in which they're expected to perform they are superb. This from an audiophile for over 25 years into TRUE high end. They are very good.

I love em. Better sounding than any altec lansings.

You need a splitter if you only have one speaker out.

Keep in mind that ProMedias 2.1 are improved from the v.400 (despite only having 2 satellites). If gaming is your thing, you might want 4 satellites, but the 2.1 are ideal for crystal-clear, transparent music listening. However, you'll reach 50% of their potential with a crappy Sound Blaster.

<<does it have a hole for front and rear>>

The Acoustic Edge comes with an adapter cable (3 jacks) for front, rear and sub.

Speakers are very subjective. Be sure to listen to all of the options, including the Boston Acoustics BA-4800's.

I was all set to purchase the Klipsch, when I listened to both sets side by side. I left the store with the BA's, and an extra $40 in my pocket. (Although now, you could have an extra $100 in your pocket, as the price of the BA's has come down.)

Bestbuy should have the Klipsch promedia's and depending on the store, they may also have the BA-4800's. I personally recommend the BA-4800's. I'm VERY much into music and as a well rounded speaker, the Boston's win. The Klipsch sound better than most multimedia speakers, but IMHO do not deserve a THX certification. The THX certification is ONLY based upon other multimedia speakers. If you placed them into home theatre category they would not even come close. The BA's are and awesome set of speakers, do not hesitate to buy them. The Klipsch you should listen to first to see if the lack of midrange and harsh horn tweeters are what you're looking for. Some people love them, for my tastes, they lack in a couple of areas.

get the klipsch, you won't be sorry, worth every penny. 2 6.5" woofers for the sub:) and horn tweeters, with massive power, can't beat it. As for your soundcard, yea u can upgrade it later, just don't be surprised if powerful speakers amplify your soundcards noise..best to mute mic and line in.. and any other unused stuff.

3dsoundsurge.com has some decent reviews.

i ofcourse strongly disagree with the post above:) hehehe

the reason why they're not selling anymore v.400 is cuz they're releasing the 4.1's, it'll have the new control pod and a shiny new price tag

i just replaced the crappy stock wirings on my promedias with 16-gauge wire. and wow, it sounds a whole lot better than before. the midrange mostly, all the "brightness" or colored sound of the midrange that people have complained about is gone. it sounds much cleaner :)

wow kewl:) thanx for the info, my main reason for wanting to rewire is to increase wire length so i can hide em better. Currently my rear wires are stretched to their limits, not so kewl at all. oh yea, is there a problem with differing wire lengths? say if i wire one speaker with 8 feet and the other with 20?

No problem with differing wire lengths, as long as it not like 2' and 200-500'...even then, no real biggie as long as it's good wire. Were talking about millisecond or microsecond differences the signal to your two speakers.

Although...I dunno for certain...but keep your wire runs as short as possible (20ft should be just fine) because PC amps don't have really good distortion rating to begin with...long runs just make it worse.

My personal audio setup will be a nice set of last year's surround sound speakers from Good guys or somethng and a nice 5.1 audiophile amp/receiver with digital ins and a THD under 0.1% on each channel...current prices I'm looking at will bring the total package to about $500. Kinda expensive but hey...PC speakers just "bug" when your used to high quality audio.

I just installed the new pre-amp yesterday. I think the mids sound a little better, they include an on/off switch for speaker output right on the pod, and also a line in, and a headphone out jack( to go along with my new Grado 80"s for night time tunes :)) Didn't take me 5 minutes to swap pods.

minimunch,

ah kewl:) It will only be about an 8 foot difference. i was pretty sure it wouldn't matter, just curious if attenuation would affect longer differences:)

I have Klipsch Promedia v.2 400s and they're amazing, I'm so glad I bought these speakers. I use them for DVDs, Music, Games, everything, I don't use my stereo anymore or my TV speakers (I have my Promedia's connected to both my comp & TV).
