I mainly listen to music but watch movies every once in a while on my computer... no gaming really...

Which setup would you recommend? Its about ~$30 more for the 4.1's over the 2.1's....

If you go with a 4.1 setup, make sure you have a sound card that *really* supports 4.1 sound. Unless the sound card upmixes stereo signals (standard CD and mp3 tracks) to 4.1 sound, you won't see much benefit there. Also, you've got to make a commitment to set-up those rear speakers. That means you may want to consider speaker stands. I remember I just stopped installing my rear satellites in the frat house because they just ended up getting kicked around the room. Lastly, make sure your software DVD player supports 4.1 sound. Many software DVD players (especially OEM versions) only support 2-channel sound and charge you extra for enhanced sound packages.

if you can afford any one of them already i don't see why not

But for music, would the 2.1's sound better than the 4.1's? That's what I heard from a few people who have Klipsch setups...

well the 4.1's won't do you any good for movies unless they have good hardware emulating capabilities (which they don't...i used to have the promedia 4.1's). you need 5.1 speakers to watch movies/DVDs in true dolby digital surround sound. and you don't play games, so you'll never need the 4 speaker setup for EAX gaming. on the other hand, like you said, they can be found for only $30 more than the 2.1's, and if you love music, you can listen to it in stereo x2 by turning up the surround sound dial on the satellite control unit. it all boils down to whether the extra $30 is worth it to you. personally i love listening to music on my computer, so i'm in the process of getting a nice system w/ a receiver and hooking it up to my computer...that's why i got rid of the promedia's. but if you aren't that much of an audiophile, then klipsch makes one of the best computer speakers out there.

get the 4.1s. The 4.1 has a bigger sub and more power sattlelites for better quality. Also, if u don't want to use surround, just connect 2 speakers and save the other 2 satellites for later if u want to try 4.1. I wish they had that deal for the 4.1 when i was buying speakers for college. Those 4.1s would put my altec lansing set to shame

The 4.1's have dual side fireing cones and 60 watt satellites. I believe the 2.1 subs only have a single 6'' driver on the subbs, and the satellites are only ~25 watts. Not sure on the exact numbers. But I would personally take the 4.1's, and you can hook them up as 2.1's at your leisure also.

I have the 2.1's because there isnt any room for 4 speakers in my room. Either oneis great. Do yourself a favor, get the 2,1s and some surround zalman headphones and be done with it
