B Stock FAQ

What is refurbished?
Klipsch has taken merchandise not fit to be sold as new and replaced parts tested to be reliable and meeting factory specifications. Systems are sold with the understanding that they may have cosmetic imperfections.
Why only a 90-day warranty?
Because the systems are sold at below cost, the warranty is good for 90 days. [/snip}

Please be careful on these
I ordered a set and they were DOA. They are doing a return but taking their sweet time. I am afraid that by the time I get the returns if they are DOA I will not have much time left to get them swapped before my 90 days runs out.

FWIW, I just saw on the chubby billfold that Circuit City has Klipsch 4.1 for $199, marked down from the regular $249. It might be worth $50 to get new, in the box, equipment with a warranty. You can get an extended 4 year replacement warranty from CC for about $28 more, if you're as hard on your speakers as I am it would really be worth it.

UPDATE on this.
Be very careful on this order
My fears were realized. I got this second set of speakers back and they too were DOA!
They did not power up at all. I had only 5 days left until my 90 days ran out.. yes I have been trying to get this resolved for nearly 3 months. Klipsch told me that after the 90 days I can only keep shipping my dead speakers back. The company sent me the same speakers back in the same box, I doubt they even looked at them. I got my money back from them after a lot of complaining. Good look to any of you that order Refurbs from Klipsch. I myself am done.

For $150 just get yourself a set of BRAND NEW Logitech Z560 speakers, and not worry about DOA, comestic defects and blah blah blah...

Question: If you get the Klipsch 4.1, what happens when you use with 5.1 sound? The missing component is the center front channel, right? Are you going to get the center sound from your front L+R channels? Do you handle this in software? Does it make sense to hook up the center channel to the front L+R speakers?? I have a GTXP that has 5.1 sound and I'm using PowerDVD, which handles DVD 5.1 decoding in software (also have MSI DVD but haven't tried it). Thanks.

Edit: I guess I just found out part of my answer: the GTXP lets you choose the output:

6.1
5.1
4.1
4
2.1
2
Headphones

I wonder how it supports 6.1. There's no output on the breakout box for a rear center. I think newer GTXP's have it but not mine.

Not sure if this helps but I found this

How can I get a center channel signal with my 4 speakers?
If your soundcard has a 4 speakers setting, any center channel signal from a game or DVD will be mixed by the soundcard into the left and right front speakers for a ?phantom? center channel. This works very well when your listening position is equidistant from each front speaker

Yeah, I just read this in their FAQ. Thanks. I'm wondering if it's worth it to get the 5.1's instead. It looks like there's more to it than just the addition of a center speaker. They redesigned the amps and the wiring is 18 guage instead of 22 guage. Maybe there are other improvements...?

I would watch out with this deal. They did not even send me all the wires and it has taken me weeks to get them to send the right ones. So I do not even know if 3 out of the 4 speakers work. At least one of them and the sub works though so thats a good sign :)

They do not seem to take much care in how these refurb orders are shipped out. I would go with circuit city for $50 more (less when you take out the shipping)

Hmmm...why not spend less and get NEW Logitech Z-560's?

If I remember reviews right, they scored/sounded better than the Klip's 4.1

I've seen some stuff to suggest the Monsoon MM 2000 4.1 system has much better fidelity if you are into music more than games (I am).
