The stereo that was connected to my computer died on me. I want to get 5.1 speakers and was looking at the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra and the Logitech Z-680. Which one do you guys think I should get?

Are there any other good 5.1 computer speakers out there?

No question, Promedia Ultra hands down. Persoanally the best PC speakers out there. Great highs from tweets. Balanced mid tones and awesome low. This thing hits hard. Not as boomy as logitechs. Do a search it has been mentioned many times now.

I second the Klipsch's.

Of course I took a different route and went with the Creative Gigaworks and am very happy with them.

You do also have the Z-5500s to consider (they're the newer version of the 680s).

If you check Dell they were having the Klipsch on sale for like $280 or so I believe.

I also have Creative Gigaworks - and despite being warned that they arent as 'good' as logitech or Klipsch, I think they are great for the price, and certainly more than enough for what I need them for (surround gaming and DVD watching) - I can turn them up louder than I can bear to listen to and to be honest if you put all three sets of speakers in the room, I probably could'nt tell difference in sound quality - but then I am not an audiophile...just a regular user! ;)

This is what seems to be the general consensus about these three speaker sets

The Logitechs are considered the worst (but might be better price/performance wise). The Gigaworks are supposed to have the best satellites, with a good sub. The Klipsch are supposed to have good satellites with an excellent sub. Baiscally the Gigaworks and Klipsch are about even and you'd choose between what you want to be better the sub or the speakers.

By no means am I saying any of these are bad. There are plenty of people who actually prefer the sound of the Logitechs over the Klipsch speakers. For some reason the Gigworks are typically not even considered.

I have the MegaWorks (Cambridge's high-end before GigaWorks) and they're awesome. You can probably find them for $200 or less. Though since you're looking at Z-680s and ProMedia Ultras, I'm going to guess that you plan the spend more than $200. I've never listened to the Z-680s or Ultras, but my brother's ProMedia 4.1s are great (slightly better highs than MegaWorks, seems same otherwise).

Love my 5500s
had the Klipsh's yes the Ultras
burned amps..
not enough bass for movies and gaming when you want to shake the walls..

5500s have plenty to make the neighbors windows rattle when I watch Swordfish and do the explosion scene

I don't really need THAT much bass and after looking through the forums and reading all the mumbo jumbo about the Klipsch and Logitech speakers, I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and just get me the 5.1 Promedia Ultras. Thanks for the help guys.
