Klipsch HD500 speakers

I have a chance to get a brand new set of Klipsch HD500 speakers for $250 or so. I've been looking for smaller speakers (due to the wife factor) and I think these might be a good option because of the price and decent reviews. Any thoughts or opinions? I have a Denon AVR2310CI receiver and the room is probably 17 X 15, if I had to guess.

For reference, these are the speakers:

Honest opinion? Not worth the trouble. Your wife is going to be annoyed by about anything you put in there. And you are going to resent the fact that you have some dinky little satellite that you compromised on cost & performance for.

Just forget it, or save up and actually get something worthwhile like a Totem Tribe onewall or a high quality sound bar or something.

Again...my $.02

They're OK for what they are but that's a pretty good sized room. I don't know if they will perform like you would want them to.

If you need a high WAF level, an interesting option could be to buy 5 of these on clearance: Boston Soundware speakers
They are still relatively small, but they have a 4.5" woofer so they can provide fuller sound than the Klipsch satellites. For the WAF they are unique because they are paint-ready and have a slew of mounting options (including in corners) due to their shape. This video might help you visualize what I am talking about. If you paint them wall color and mount them in the right places, they would be very non-intrusive.

Paired with a decent sub, I think you would get much better sound than you would from the HD 500.

If you must have a cheap satellite/sub system, I suppose you could do worse. 2.5" "mid-bass" drivers in the satellites and an 8" "subwoofer"? At least it's not Bose.

I tend to agree with vi edit that you're still unlikely to entirely please the wife (can't you find invisible speakers somewhere?), and you'll be less than pleased with the compromise yourself.

I have a Quintet based system (with an 8" sub) and they sound very good for movies, but for music they don't have enough power and bass to really drive the music well.

Considering the cost difference between the Quintet and that HD system I can't imagine that system is going to produce nearly as much sound as the Quintet's and probably leave you unsatisfied.

BTW the Quintet's with a sub is around $750. If money isn't an option I'd go that route before the cheaper system. I don't think there is much of a size difference between the Quintet's and the HD speakers.

Here's the Quintet's sitting on stands in my old apartment. Now they site right on the TV stand beside the tv and are hardly noticeable.

In this pic in the top right you can see one of the surround speakers, again hardly noticeable.
