klipsch 5.1 w/ settop dvd player

those klipsch 5.1's look pretty interesting, but i still have one question. i looked all over klipsch's site but i didnt see the answer. does the system have a built in dd decoder? if so is there a coax digital in so i can hook my dvd player up to it?

You have to buy the decoder separately since its not included. I think its an additional 70-100 bucks. And doesn't even include DTS.
Kind of a ripoff in my opinion...

Yea you would probably have to buy some proprietary decoder, and not a real home theater receiver or decoder unless perhaps the speakers use standard bare speaker wire.

The Klipsch 5.1's require 6 analog inputs for Dolby Digital, i.e., an already decoded signal. They don't have a digital input or a built-in DD decoder.

<< and not a real home theater receiver or decoder >>

Well, many real home theater receivers have analog line-level outputs for each channel, and EVERY stand-alone decoder has them.

Also, many mid-range and higher DVD players have DD decoding built in (my Toshiba does), which provides all the decoded analog outputs you need.

yeah my toshiba has a dd decoder too, but to be honest i like the decoding to be in the receiver and not the dvd player. it could just be a psychological thing. some people like different things. for example, i will take a coaxial digital over optical digital every time. i would rather go analog than use optical. but to each his own . thanks for the info

So if your DVD player has built in DD, then you can just connect the analog 5.1 outputs to the Klipsch speakers and to your TV and bada-boom-bada-bing you will be in business.
