Klipsch 4.1 + Hercules Game Theater: ANY PROBLEMS?

You all finally convinced me that Klipsch Promedia 4.1 is the best speaker system, and that Herc Game Theater XP is the best sound card.

Are there any problems or side effects I will experience with this "combo"?

For example, I heard that when playing regular music (MP3, CD music) or games without 3d audio only the FRONT speakers and the Sub will be working? Is that true?

Anything else to be aware of? Thanks in advance

The front speaker thing was a problem with Winamp, and I think the latest drivers fixed it. I use Musicmatch jukebox, and I never had that problem.

Sugerdaddy, so when you play MP3s, ALL your speakers produce sound?

What about CD music?

Thanks

Yes, mp3, audio CDs, everything plays through the 4 speakers. I have Cambridge FPS2000 hooked to the front and rear outputs, which is the same you'll use with the Klipsch. I'm not sure, but I think the problem was also only for people using 5.1 speakers.

My friend has that problem with his GTXP and Klipsch speakers. He only gets 2.1 sound when he watches tv and plays mp3s. With gaming and DVDs he gets sound from all the speakers. He's running Win2k with the latest Hercules drivers.

Is your friend using Winamp in Win98? That's what the people having the problem were using. Win2k never had that problem... Are you sure he's using the latest drivers from the Hercules web site? The drivers that come on the CD weren't very good, and were hard to install. The newer ones install perfectly and fixed that problem AFAIK, but I don't use Win98...

Actually I just remembered that he's dual booting between WinME and Win2k. I'll have to ask him if he's getting the problem in one or both operating systems. I know for sure that he's using the latest drivers from Hercules' site because I remember him complaining about the tedious install of the CD drivers and then he was happy when Hercules released the new ones. I'm curious to know myself because I'm thinking about ditching my SB Live! Platinum 5.1 for the GTXP.

Two things for some reason my older drivers would swap back to the 2.1 setup for no apparent reason.

Secondly I found that upgrading to the latest drivers eliminated that problem. They can be found here.

I'm curious as well as to how well the Klipsch 4.1 and Hercules GameTheatre XP performs together.

Does the Santa Cruz with Klipsch 4.1 have any problems that other people experience?

I've never had a problem of the sound going from 4.1 to 2.1 ever on any version of Winamp or any other program or game for that matter. That's weird I never heard of that. Of course mine run on a SB X-Gamer 5.1. Maybe it's a Herc. thing.

Well, of course it's a Hercules thing.

I might be getting this wrong, but are you guys asking if there are incompatibilities between the sound card and speakers??? (because such things don't exist...)

The klipsch 4.1 as good as they are, are still plain 4-point speakers using front and rear plugs. So if any 4 point speakers work with the GTXP, then the Klipsch will work.

oy, but i still must open winmedia player, play an mp3, pause it. and i can use eax. even then, its only 2.1

very crappy.

<< So if any 4 point speakers work with the GTXP, then the Klipsch will work. >>

Sorry not true. The original Klipsch Promedias preamp has a issue with the GTXP causing the front left speaker to take a big loss in volume due to the way the preamp submix is done between the sub and the front speakers. Hercules knows about it and claims the revised preamp that Klipsch changed too in the spring 2000 does not have this issue.

<< Does the Santa Cruz with Klipsch 4.1 have any problems that other people experience >>

It ran together fine for me with the original preamp and is still running fine with the Santa Cruz with my newer cp1 revision 3 preamp.
