Klipsch 4.0s dilemna

hey this is my last topic for awhile (maybe 😛 )

anyways
my friend is willing to sell me his klipsch 4.0 speakers for $100 bucks , he is going to buy the 5.1 set. He says these are the speakers made right before the 4.1s came out. I cannot find any reviews on this and the main difference , he says, between them are that the 4.0s have a different volume control or something. Now, I dunno if hes telling the truth or not but it seems like a mighty fine deal for $100 bucks. The problem is that they are pretty beat up, and Though they work fine, there are alot of scratches and I remember him having some problems with them before. If I do decide to get them , I will definetly test them out before I give him the money and everything but the problem is that he won't sell them to me for like 1 month until he gets enough $$$ for the 5.1s.

But I had decided to buy the Boston Acoustics BA4800s right before he told me he wanted to sell them. I can get them for about 130 and I dunno if I can wait another month....

any advice?

are there really Klipsch 4.0s?

thanks dudes

They are probably the Klipsch Promedia v2-400. They are the model before the 4.2's. The biggest difference is the control knobs and that the 4.1's had their crossover and I think some other things tweaked out to sound better. You can probably get them new between $170 and $200. Look online, you can find lots of reviews. I'm not sure how they compare to the BA4800s. As it usually goes with speakers it really comes down to personal opinion. Try and take a listen to the BA4800's if you can and base your judgement from their.

Hey SpacemanSpiffVT,

There was a set of Klipsch speakers right before the Promedia 4.1s. They were not called Promedia 4.0 though, they were officially titled...

ProMedia v.2-400

The Promeida 4.1 and v.2-400 are nearly identical both physically and functionally. The newer 4.1 is just a slight upgrade from the older v.2-400.

Specifically, both sets are 400 Watt 4.1 channel (L/R Front, L/R Rear + Sub) analog speaker setups. The newer Promedia 4.1 though has an improved control module (volume control and such like your friend said) and changed a little bit of the in-speaker circuitry for better mid-range sound.

As far as which to get that is up to you. I have a set of the v.2-400 and I like them very much. They are quite clear and very powerful for PC speakers.

The Klipsch speakers regularly have been significantly more expensive than the Bonston Acoustics BA4800s. Both the Promedia v.2-400 and Promedia 4.1 originally retialed for about $299.

On the other hand I have heard nothing but excellent things about the Boston Acoustics BA4800s. Indeed many people like their sound better than Promedias, and a new set of those might well be better than an old set of v.2-400s.

I also have the v.2-400 original promedia's and I'm am in no hurry to replace them. Still sound great to me. If everything is included (4 sats and a sub) and they work, you should definitely get them for $100

yes i told him that they were probably the v2.4s and he adamantly said no they werent
but hes a dumbass so i wouldnt be suprised if they are

anyways how do the subs compare on the 2 speakers?

sybert1ger,

Where did you see the klipsch for 170-200. I would definately get these for that price because I would replace my acs54s with them especially for around 170 if possible. Thanks

Everything you've already been told about the original Promedia's is correct. The BA4800's are an awesome set of speakers for the money. Figuring you order the BA's online for $130. Add $20 for shipping, thats $150. If your friends' PM's are in good shape (no blown speakers, volume control not "crackly" when you turn it, etc) for $100 you'd be foolish to do anything else. $100 for that PM set is a great price. No shipping to pay either.

If this was an discussion about whether to buy a NEW set of PM.s for $300 or the BA's for half that, then there'd be more to talk about. But it isn't, so there isn't. 🙂 Fork out the hundred bucks and be in 100 decibel gaming heaven. 😀

I luv my BA4800's and would only trade them in for some DT6000's (another great boston acoustics product) After enjoying them so much I think I've become somewhat of a BA loyalist. They are great speakers and can be had for abou 130 -140 shipped off pricewatch. The Klipsch are great also but I would be wary of your friend because I am sure he could get more than 100 for those speakers if they were 100% ok but if they are go for it. I could not see spending 400 dollars on computer speakers though since you can get a Sony Home Theater System for 200 more.

www.3dsoundsurge.com has a good review of the Boston Acoustics BA4800's though they seem to like the klipsch more 😀

whatever floats your boat though
