Klinux. Savior of lost cycles!!!

I have been fighting with a few left over motherboards and processors trying to get one to work towards the grand effort without any luck. Then I came upon the little post below Kilowatts, about Klinux. I thought I would check it out not expecting much when low and behold my puter actually booted into linux. I got all the way through the dnet setup when I read that I would need 2 nic cards in the another puter to pull this off. I was a bit bummed. I had a nic in the klinux box and had it hooked to my switch that is connected to my dsl router. I started rc5 just to see if it would crunch and find out how fast this little k5-90 was. WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT CAME UP SAYING "The personal proxy says: "Twioz personal proxy. Cram those cows in!!!". It connected to my pproxy by getting an IP from gte's dhcp server! By God It Was ALIVE! I ran through the house yelling OMG It Works! must have said it 5-10 times before my wife came in saying "What did you make now Dr. Frankenputer!"
Alas my new alias.
Thank you so much Kilowatt for that great program. Gunna scrounge and find a few more floppy drives to get the rest of the herd up.

What is actually required network wise to get Klinux to run? I have an all Win98/ME tcp/ip network connected via a switch using ME's ICS sharing a dialup connection. If I wanted to run Klinux what would I have to add or change on my network to get it to work with this setup?

blade_47, as long as the nic is compatible with the version of Klinux you D/L it should be fine.

It's best to run Klinux flush/fetching to a pproxy on your LAN, but could be setup to go directly to DNET if you have a DNS server on the same network.
I don't know if WinBlow$ ICS does this or not.

If no DHCP or DNS server is running on your LAN, you setup Klinux by running "netconfig" after log-in, and assign the Klinux "node" a static IP on the same netmask as the rest of your LAN.

Then you setup the DNET client the same as you would the first time under winblow$.
You'll tell the client config the IP of your pproxy box.

FYI, a CII 566 @ 850 on a Win98 box gets about 2.31Mkeys/sec, while the same box running Klinux gets 2.40Mkeys/sec, 🙂 all because of less overhead running Klinux.

< /it makes me proud 😀

Thanks!! So far I only run seti, but am thinking I might help the RC5 effort a little (as long as we keep holding our own on the seti front).🙂 I might try setting up a pproxy this weekend and see how it goes.😀

P.S. I also contributed 10.00 to the DanC's advertising fund because I was in such a jolly mood after getting my k5-90 up and running.
