Klinux/nic question...

GeoffS

Lifer
Is Klinux really picky about the nic if it's not on the list? I have some nics that I don't even know what the make is, never mind drivers...

Try GoeffS, many NICs can use other drivers than you think because they use the same chipset... If you've already got the NICs it's just good info to know if they work or not... And of course I think KW would be interested in your results with other NICs than the ones he's got listed 😉

Good luck!

Best thing to do is plug it in and try it. Some brand X cards use standard chips/generic drivers, so you never know.

[edit] Hey Two Face, great minds think alike. Yours just runs faster than mine. [/edit]

LOL, I love Linux networking. 😀

I came up with that list(s) from the kernel configuration, and added what cards I knew took supported drivers.
Can you tell us what the chip on the nic(s) says?

There are some nics, that are just not supported under Linux, but most of them are cheap "Winics".
(Like a Win Modem, only network card) 😎

All- Thanks in advance for your efforts in identifying these NICS 🙂 Some are clearly marked with the brand, others are not...

OK, Nic #s 3 & 4 will take the standard tulip driver, that would be Klinux-2.1 or Klinux-2.3 depending on your CPU.

Nic #s 1 & 5, I think will take the same, it's the 10bit version of the Linksys, so I'm not sure, but 5 has what looks like the same series chips.

Nic # 2 I have no idea, as I've never used a Kingston, but I'd try Klinux-2.1 first.

Edit - There is a pretty good list of Linux supported nics on the second half of this page.

I have a bunch of these NICs. They work perfectly with the ne2kpci driver.
