KKK get a highway sign

Wonder if it specifically states in the rules of their program that anyone volunteering has to get a sign. If not, they could just say "Sur eyou can volunteer but we aren't putting up a sign because that's our decision and not stated in the rules"

As much as I hate to say it, atleast they generally usetheir voices and actions in a manner that helps their cause.

Not that I agree with them. But atleast they arn't morons ike Al Quaeda.

EIDT: I should say that the leadership generally provides a postivive public image these days. Of course there are individuals that do bad things. Point being, they arn't publicly inciting violence and encouraging murder.

The last time this happened (with the same results, they won their case) they had their sign taken away in quick order when they failed to fulfill their half of the bargain (actually cleaning the highway).

It will likely happen again.

Yep. I don't know what it is with this area. Some other Neo-Nazi group paid to have advertisements put on the Metro-link here too, and now they're being removed this week. Of course, they think it's against the law to have their signs taken down.

True freedom of speech is not measured by allowing speech we agree with, but by allowing speech that offends us most.

I disagree with everything the KKK stands for, but I also disagree with limiting their freedoms and rights based on their beliefs and speech, no matter how vile I find it to be.

Sure, as long as that speech doesn't slander others. Offending is okay, but slandering is not.

very true. I think the best way to get rid of the KKK is to just ignore them. I'm sure they want the media spotlight and controversy.

And true freedom of speech means that they can say what they want ... but I don't have to listen. 😛

All opinion could be defined as slander by the subject of that opinion.

Are bad movie/product reviews slander?

Be careful, we are already headed down this dangerous road.

On a legal stance I agree. But our laws were made to reflect our moral conscience as well. I believe the most abused and misuised of our freedoms is that of speech. The KKK, Louis Farrakhan, Howard Stern may get away with saying stuff legally but that doesn't make it right. I am a firm believer that certain speech should be limited. Hate speech and speech that incites riots should not be allowed. Its amazing how they will put stamps on rap albums, want to now fine folks who sell certain video games to minors, but allow your child or mine to be exposed deviants who exploit the freedom of speech like these clowns. I am not going to argue over legality but on moral fiber I will take a stand that it should be disallowed. I did not agree with the Million Man March for this very reason. A racist got his chance to spew his nonsense.

Trust me there will be so much trash thrown in that stretch it will be terrible. Watch.

Sadly, your probably right, and what a bunch of hypocrits they will be too. They will be fighting legal free speech by speaking in a way that's breaking the law. I don't agree with the KKK, but I do think they have a rights as confirmed by the SC.

I somewhat agree with you. Society itself should censor the haters by ignoring them. However, our government cannot, and should not have that power.

Our laws should reflect one thing: The preservation and protection of individual rights. Leave morality for society to determine through social norms.
