hey folks,

I to am having bad experiences w/kk266. I cannot find any info in the manual about using the raid controller(disabled)for 1 ata100 hdd. I tried many setting in the bios(advance bios settings/second boot device)but periodically get this error in windows 98se..Windows encountered an error accessing the system registry. Windows will restart & repair the sys. reg. for you!!!

It has something to do with the ata 100 ibm hdd & raid controller because I don't get the above error when I put the hdd on ide0. The reason why I want to use the raid controller is because I have a plexwriter 16/10/40 & a 52x cdrom that I want to run on their own controllers. I was able to do it on my abit kt7a with no probs... Also I should have this option if I want!!! Also my win explorer periodically takes 6 to 10 sec. to open(even a couple times it took longer, can run another proggie then bam, it shows up)& when I try to explore my cd-rw/cd-rom contents it also takes 6 sec. not so on the kt7a with same components but for the plexwriter. Is it the brd or something else? Am I just being picky? I dont think so!(I LOVE SPEED!!!)pls help me to find these problems.

Thanks in advance, Spanky.

Whats the RAID controller? Promise or High Point? I think the KK266 uses Promise, have you downloaded the latest drivers for it? Try it.
You should be fine to put 1 HDD in the raid ports.

Good luck!

Everyone with a KK266-R that tries to run the raid ports as normal IDE gets that. The only "solution" is to go to Start -> Run.., enter "msconfig", and disable Registry scanning under the Startup tab. Not great, but it sort of works.

Unfortunately, I encountered many unusual problems after that. DVD playback would be jerky even with DMA enabled and would eventually lock up the system. Installations from a CD on IDE to the drive on the raid port would crap out giving strange read errors. Stuff like that. Once I moved the drive back to the IDE ports and slaved the DVD drive to it, all the problems went away.

I really wanted to have all drives be Master, but I think that a PCI IDE controller is a better option than trying to use the ide-raid ports on this board. Sucks, I know. I spent the extra money just to be able to do this, and now I have ports that are useless to me. Oh well. Iwill never said that these ports could be used for anything other than raid.
