Just Saw an interview with Bill Clinton and Greta-im not a mannequin-Sustern. Great interview, her face notwithstanding, which Bill talked about his foundation and his favorite new charity http://kiva.org/
Simply put its a microloan bank that you-or me-can pay into as little as 25 dollars and directly pick what country, region, or project those dollars go towards. You can track your donation or loan directly and see directly the people that you are helping. If the loan gets repaid you can get your money back or just pass it on to another project or person.
Amazingly microloans have made a difference in alot of places since its not a handout, its a chance for people to pull themselves out of poverty. Incredibly these loans have a 98 percent repay rate and in a country like Bangladesh it caused over a period of years a growth of over 200 percent in the poverty line.
Before peeps start flaming, this was not invented or created by Bubba Clinton, its been in place for a while and an Indian man-whos name escapes me-won the nobel prize for it.
Any thoughts, Concerns or ideas?
My church had done this on a small scale in a small town in the congo, but seeing it in a website that is so accessible and easy to use seems very interesting.
