One of my friends applied the philosophy "if you wanna try to eat my finger, you get all of it" -- having a whole human finger stuffed into their face == not fun for the cat. IDK if it worked though, since I haven't been around his cats for a while.

Did they all die mysterious finger-choking related deaths?

:shifty;

No, I'm sure they're still alive and well -- I don't think the finger was down their throats or anything.

I actually had a problem years back with one of my cats biting. So I picked it up and bit it.
She stopped biting.

...and moving

...forever.

:(

I can hardly be held responsible for not being familiar with just where a feline's critical veins are.

Use a watergun. Cats hate it, and learn pretty quickly what is punished via watergun.

Not all of them. My roommate had a kitten, and it just tried to attack the stream of water. It didn't seem to care about getting wet.

I will also act in a "cat whisperer" way I suppose - I'll hiss and growl at a cat if it's doing something wrong. They tend to respond to that. Like if one of my cats does something it knows it's not supposed to, I'll chase him into a corner and hiss and growl at him, and maybe wave my hands at him and bat his ears. He crouches to the ground and squints, with his ears laid back. He generally gets the hint, at least for a few days.

Thanks for the advice - i currently do the hold by neck and taunt thing, that works for a bit then he's back at it. When i got pissed at him for drawing blood I put him in a box, which wa probably cruel in retrospect. Water gun will be purchased and I'll try some other techiques mentioned here. More advice is always welcomed.

The problem with putting it in a box is the lack of understanding. Punishment must be immediate.

Let me give you a little lesson, here. A lot of the previous posts have been good ones, but let me rephrase all of them into an advice for ALL cat owners, whether their cat is aggressive or not.

-Do not play aggresive games with your cat
-Regularly clip it's nails. Only with white part, the pinkish part has nerves, and it hurts
-When the cat is being aggressive, make a warning the first time. A loud 'Shoo!' and a shove will usually do the trick. The second time, grab the skin in it's neck (you know when the mother moves 'em, the part she bites into to pick it up? That's the part I'm talking about), and, whilst holding it like that, speak to it in a stern manner. It doesn't matter what you say, the intonation of your voice must say:"I'm dominant, and I don't like what you just did." When the cat's calmed down, put it on the ground
-Cats like to be tickled or pet(ted?) under the chin, near the ears (the fluffy part right before the opening) and when it really trusts you, the belly or just on the side of the eyes

If you ever have a question about a cat, contact (PM) me. We've got a cattery over here, so I know a lot about them :). Good luck with your kitty. :)

Oh, and make sure you buy specialty clippers for cats in the pet section, not human nail clippers. They only cost like $3-4 tops.

Ah, yes, the Schrodinger technique.
