Kitchen sink

Asymmetrical is the only way to go. We have a huge stainless sink that has a large side and an even larger side. I got tired of the stupid sinks that can't fit big pots or pans. Everything fits in our sink and we love it.

I've never seen it done here, but, is this where we post sinks?

Woooo I'm tired... someone else take over.

We went with a 60/40 sink...I'm not crazy about it. The small side is just too small for pots and pans. Should have gone with a single large basin sink.

Yeah, if you happen to live in the 21st century, and have a dishwasher, just get a huge single bowl sink and live happily ever after.

I prefer a large single, and I do dishes by hand. A split sink just wastes usable space.

If I get lazy and don't do dishes/pots after every meal, the single large sink is a bit of a bear. I have to wash in batches, working around the soaking stuff to clear space to rinse before going in the drying rack.

Really, I need to make better use of the dishwasher. If I get better at putting away the clean dishes, I wouldn't have to do any dishes by hand.

another vote for split sink if you don't have/use your dishwasher. giant single if you do.

Have this.

Quartz resin. Can lay a cookie sheet in it. Has a metal basket for the raised part. Standard sink width.

If you have a back splash like in the pic, be aware of how your water turns on. Some faucet levers go back...oh, snap, there's a wall there.

Single large, assuming you have a dishwasher.

Seconded - one with an apron front ("farmhouse sink") makes for easy maintenance: (throw a dishtowel on the front to prevent your shirt from getting wet)

My dishwashing system is pretty simple:

1. Dirty dishes go on left counter
2. Sink for rinsing off (with a garbage disposal)
3. Fill up dishwasher & run
4. Anything large or leftover gets hand-washed & placed on a towel on the right counter to dry

Not everyone has heard of them, but I use those yellow Dobie scrubber pads - soap it up, run the water, and scrub everything off:

I also use one of those sponges-on-an-arm things for large pots & pans:

To keep things efficient, Lysol has a nice little automated dishsoap dispenser:

And of course, dishwasher pellets are the bomb:

Takes the hassle out of doing dishes since you can burn right through them. I like the idea of a split sink, but in practice I just find them annoying. Rinse & put in dishwasher, or scrub clean & put on drying towel - done. House rule is nothing lives in the sink (you don't put dishes IN the sink) so that there's never a pile to act as a barrier to doing the dishes. Otherwise it stacks up & then no one wants to deal with it, haha.

This. My dad has an assymetrical split sink and the small side is just useless. You can fit a coffee carafe from a pot in there and thats about it. I dont know what the purpose of it is. Either symmetrical split sink or one large deep sink is what I'd prefer.

large deep ftw.

I'm not a fan of a split sink, even when I didn't have a dishwasher. never felt the need to let the entire mess of dishes soak. I just rinse off the dishes, grab one of those scrubbing sponges and fill it with soap, scrub down the dish, rinse it off, and put it in the drying rack.

Standard sink, 32x22, the raised part may be 5".

Pic of bottom for reference.

Interesting, I guess I've only ever had small sinks haha! If that's your photo, how is that Everpure filter working out for you? I just replaced my faucet and I was looking into different water filters to improve the tap water taste.

I prefer one large basin. I have a split sink right now and it's awful. such a pain in the ass to wash anything big, I can't let anything big rest in there. Anytime i try to maneuver something big around it water just gets all over the countertop. and the one side soak one side rinse is BS too, or at least it doesn't work with us. usually when we wash dishes we just wash everything at once

I prefer a split sink....symmetrical, but I'm old-school. I really like stainless steel the best, but we currently have a white porcelain enamel sink. It's a nice surface, but requires bleach to make it look clean. You're not supposed to scrub that stuff because it causes scratches that eventually hold more dirt.

I keep a drying rack in one side all the time and wash dishes in the other side....it's the same side as the disposal. I've only had 1-2 mishaps with things going down that weren't supposed to, but that may increase as the kids get older.

My split sink is not rectangular. It's made by Kohler and has a little indention on 2 corners to allow pot handles to fit on 8" pans. Cookie sheets and larger pans don't fit well, but I just wash them 1/2 at a time....it's not a big issue....it looks like this:

Happy with it. We can smell the chlorine in the city water. Can't be good for the body. It's completely gone after the filter. The kit was ~$200 but I got it wholesale. They make better ones...such and such microns...but I can't say if you need them.

I grew up with a split in my parents house but in the college houses and apartments I've lived in since college, it's always been a single sink.

And... I fucking hate single sinks. I do dishes by hand 95% of the time so I'd for sure get split. But if you don't or rarely do dishes by hand, I guess single might make more sense.

Although I'm not sure I'd get single even if I used the dishwasher more often; guess I'm used to the flexibility of split.
