kit cars?

isn't there anything cheaper out there I can build? I'm not looking for anything very powerful, heck, it can be weak for all I care, but something small, light, and street legal would be nice

It's the fact that I've already sold my Mr2-turbo months early (stupid decision), my Elise is delayed until mid way through next year (so I'll probably scrap it and get my deposit back), and the M400 is not coming until oct/nov. I'm stuck driving a 5300lb baby-mobile in the meantime.

I tell you, the wait is killing me.
 
build you a dune buggy out of a VW, not the kind with the roll cages but the marx manx style. These can be built for under 10k and can be nice and peppy too depending on what all you do.

Nah. I originally wanted the Elise; have wanted it for years. Put a deposit down last Oct (03), and was told it would get here by April/May 04. Now, it's extended to April/May of NEXT YEAR.

The Noble is almost the same kind of car. It's definitely heavier at 2300lbs instead of 1975lbs, but it's still very light. Heck, it's 200lbs lighter than a basic Mini Cooper. It's basically an Elise/Exige on roids.

0-60 in 3.5 seconds, 0-100 in 8.0 seconds. That means it's faster than a Ford GT, yet can corner at over 1.156 g's.

I figure it's a great place to start, and I can always turn up the boost later if 400hp per ton of weight is not enough. Plus, how expensive can a Ford Duratec V6 be to replace?

The Elise on the other hand, uses the 2zz engine, whichno one seems to have been able to boost reliably. The 6-speed is also said to be rather delicate.
 
To build a kit car properly you should never expect to pay any less than $25000. The only exceptions are really body trade outs like the Vella Rosa. Also no matter who you buy the kit from if it is fiberglass you better have some fiberglass experience.

If you were just doing a body trade out and you were capable of doing the cutting and welding yourself you could pull off a Vella Rosa for cheap. You could probably even manage a V8 conversion for <25000.

I've done a couple different cars with my dad including Cobras, 32 Ford Roadster, and a GT40. Nothing is cheap.
