IMO Kissinger is like McConnell. I respect him in that Patton "Americans like winners" kind of way. The dude was absurdly competent as SoS and was able to basically make magical (which doesn't immediately translate to nice) shit happen.

Was reading about his involvement in the Yom Kippur/6th of October war and the dude basically managed to thread a needle and lay the foundation for Israeli/Egyptian peace and a broader detante between Arab nations and Israel.

Then there are a lot of his other projects...

It's a shame the man was a product of a ruthless zero sum mindset, he could have accomplished truly great things if his foundation had simply set a little bit differently.

Yeah, I thought that too when I read that phrase, but then I wonder why a foreign national is so interested in policing in NYC. He may just be a dunce.

One minute, he said, "you needed to be a redneck from Kentucky and then later you had to be some kind of white dude from Minnesota. ... And then in 15 minutes, you need to be from New York, writing something in black slang."

that the goal was not to promote pro-Russian views but to create turmoil in America
they want us to hate each other.

I used to focus on his voice. I saw him as a master hypnotist. To me he always sounded emotionally dead, no trace of any feeling, his voice calling you to the same place. To me he was like a Cobra card shark, his hand invisible with only a steely stare and zero tells.

Kissinger was a product of his time...

The U.S. is a militaristic society, sometimes force will be used in foreign policy and policing

That's the way most white middle class Americans who elect people like the Daleys, Nixon, Reagan, Giuliani, Trump, Bloomberg want...period.

I bet you were buds with the cops that sodomized Abner Louima
Hell no, those cops were savage idiots and they gave the 1990s NYPD a bad name. If there was no Baez, Loiuma, Diallo, Dorismond, etc., NYPD-Black relations would have been golden.

Cheney, Pompeo, Rumsfeld, Kissinger did what they had to do, controversial things.

Thats the end of it, for me on this topic.

Vietnam is the past, you can't change the past.
