The Army has some extremely well going programs in the Northern Kurdish areas as well,
especially around Mosul and Dahouk, rebuilding schools, geting local police involved with the
civilian population, etc. Some of the areas are so safe that there are 'Relaxation Hotels'
that GI's are allowed to go to unwind, and do not even carry their personal wepons, as the armed
guard detail is handled by Albanian Army personel to provide muscle for the GI's protection when
they get the opportunity to partake in this - In Country R & R.

This area is frequented by visiting dignataries, as you don't normally take them into areas
that would place them into danger. Bruce Willis and his band have been going into that
area and doing concerts to boost troop moral.
(And Bruce & Company are doing it out of their own pocket)

There are factions within the Iraqi Resistance that will make special efforts
to hit any group that shows willingness to cooperate with the U.S. and their
personel, just to make political anti-american statements.

Don't get involved.
They can't protect you.
we'll get you if you help.

Same in every war, no matter how long we are in their country,
they will still be there after we've left.

Found some interesting pictures posted on the web by some unknown 101st Soldier

Looking at them reminds me so much of some of the events I experienced in the 'Nam
some 30+ years ago - some things never change, not even from culture to culture.
(Anyone else from the 'Nam see the simularities in the pictures and situations ?)
How about G-1 or Bosnia, look familiar in the way it's presented ?

Its the same in every war. Bands of brothers, from every generation. You learn to love them like your own.

The names change but the faces remain the same. There is little in life that can replace camaraderie.
