I've seen it a couple times, and I was impressed by its power. But for such high price, is it worth it?

It sure makes those nice lines in the carpet, but you can do better with a little more effort using a normal vac. Those things are like $2k each with all the accesories!

Get a used one. Those Kirby's are built like a tank and virtually indestructible.

That's what I was thinking....I like the one where it's like a golf course...I think that's well worth it.

They're built like a tank, but for what reason? All they're required to do is suck dirt off of a carpet! The sad thing is what happens to these 'tanks' when they suck up a screw or coin. It's possible the object will break an impeller blade, throwing it way out of balance and render it useless. Kind of ridiculous, no?

You can buy a nice, quiet, lightweight bypass type vacuum from Sharp, Panasonic or Riccar for about $100.00. They're even repairable/rebuildable, but for $100.00 why bother?

If you still want something similar to the Kirby, but for a LOT less money, look at the Royal line.

Kirby sucks. First off, the fan gets hit by all the debree coming in. I had a fan blade brake and become noisy. To fix it I broke one of the opposite blades to balance it. There's much better vacuums for filtering dust. I believe there are more powerful, lighter (easier to handle), more convenient (easier to convert) vacuum cleaners out there... and you could buy a lot of them for $2,000!

we have a Rainbow, my mother bought it for us. $1500.00 i believe. it's heavy, it's awkward (canister style vs upright) and it's unweildy but that thing SUCKS and BLOWS like nobody's business.

about a month ago, I had the Kirby demonstration folks over at my house. The thing works great but they were trying very hard to sell it to me for $2600!?!?!?!?!? I'll stick with my ole Hoover.

Yeah... we had a demonstration as well. We couldn't afford it so the guy tried everything he could think of. Eventually it came down to the point where he threw in his own employee discount and asked a lot of questions from his boss. The price after all he tried to get us to buy one was about $900. Ah well. The guy looked just like Drew Carey... was pretty funny.

Look nice, are they as good as Kirby? Anyone has experience with these?

Same here. My mom bought Rainbow Rex Air a few months ago and it's damn good. It was pretty scary to see the crap it pulled out of the carpeting. Like the size of a damn softball. The price tag is on the insane side, but it does the job better than any vacuum we've had so far.

My wife and I were talking yesterday about our G4 (Kirby). One of the BEST purchases we have made off of eBay. Don't pay full price and get the shampooer

Go handle one. You'll see it's virtually identical, both the good and the bad. They both suck the debris straight through an aluminum impeller. That can be destroyed by a simple stone or coin. They're both screaming loud. God, I HATE that. Makes me cringe! They're both bulky and heavy.

Get the sale's pitch on a Simplicity with a bypass system at your local vacuum outlet. After you see and hear the difference, you'll prefer it. Then make your purchase online. Panasonic and Riccar are identical to the Simplicity. Sharp is nearly identical. Go for the lowest price with the features you want. Pocket a few hundred dollars and enjoy the peace and quiet.

NO! It's not worth it and if you're not fairly strong, forget about carrying the thing around the house. My dad bought one for my poor mother and she didn't even use it because it was so heavy. It's even self propelled because it's heavy, but that doesn't help you if you have to carry if from floor to floor.

FYI.. If you are interested in a Kirby, shop around. I've seen people pay a huge variance in price for these things depending on who is selling it.
