Good idea! Here's the internals. Since you 1st noticed it, why not inform himself yourself? He might reward you. I wouldn't want take that away from you.

It does say at the bottom of that page:

"Thanks to the thermal pad, the etching is a bit tough to make out. The part number on the chip itself is actually TC58NCF618GBT and also carries the Toshiba brand. The '618' in the part number references the fact that this is the JMF618 controller we have seen before which is essentially a JMicron JMF612 controller carrying the Toshiba brand."

One more question - it seems that there's a drawback to using an SSD in Vista 64, namely that it doesn't support TRIM. Is this something I should be concerned about? What about garbage collection in Vista 64; does it work?

Trim is just Windows telling the SSD to run garbage collection. An SSD will go do it on its own, though some are more aggressive (Kingston V+100) than others (Crucial RealSSD) on doing garbage collection on their own.

Just read this excellent sticky which answered all my questions about SSD's so far:

Thanks Zap!

Thanks for pointing this out, Modular!

Amazing that even in the Memory and Storage forum people continue to ask about stuff that is covered in the sticky.

Compare it to a HDD. ^_^

I have this drive from the last big rebate kingston gave out. I will echo the comments from earlier in the thread. It is faster than a standard HD, but it is not blazing by any means.

A + for Kingston though. Rather than just denying my rebate w/o any reason why, they actually called me and said they had an issue with my rebate and we were able to remedy the issue over the phone and I received it last week.
