Hi,

I got a Kingston Turbochip 233 (intel p233 mmx) and under the chip, on the adaptor, there is a bank of dip switches. Does anyone have any experience on changing the settings so as to be able to overclock or replace the processor, say with a K6 or anything faster?

Thanks!
Gabriel.

Hm, the P 233 MMX will be multiplier locked, so any overclocking you can do with what you have would come from upping the FSB of the mobo you plan to use the thing on. If your board really hasn't got a VRM that delivers 2.8/3.3V for PI MMX support, chances are slim for playing with the FSB.

There might be a chance to use a K6-2 on that kingston adapter if it can provide voltages from 2.4V downwards and sufficient current for the much more power hungry K6-2s. I'd first look around the Kingston site if any docs are available. If not, take a look at a K6-2 datasheet (amd.com) to find out what the electrical requirments for a typical K6-2 are. Then find the spec sheet for the regulator (google.com) used on the adapter and see if can deliver the amps required. With the help of a multimeter an/or a non-locked PI you should be able to find out which pins are doing what.

Executive summary: best used as is, or sold for funding purchase of slightly newer equipment.
