Kingston SSD

Thinking about picking up a sdd drive for my main workstation. I saw on newegg, the Kignston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2 64GB for $145.00 How well does this ssd drive perform? Any other recommendations for ssd? I would say my budget would be around $150 or so. Oh and this would replace my current wd320GB hdd which would just become my storage drive.

update: i order this kingston ssd and it shipped out today. I should have it sometime wednesday hopefully.

it will definitely be a step up in speed from what you have. The price is decent, though you might be able to get a better performing indilinx based 60GB SSD for about the same or less with deals

I actually have this oen for my laptop (128gb version). Compared to my Samsung SC SSD, its quite slow. Compared to my previous 5400rpm Laptop HD, its a bit faster yet much smoother.

So speed up from 5400rpm is about 1x's faster (noticable speed) Its also allot more smoother, no hiccups or sudden slow downs, it stays a good steady speed of course. It is the slowest of all SSD's. Benchmarks online will show you quite an improvement over 7200rpm drives but graphs always look good, its what you notice that matters.
Not as fast as my old Velociraptor, but steadier speeds and Windows boots faster and thats the best way i could describe it but don't expect to be wow'ed. Then again remember i have this on my Laptop, so CPU speed may make this SSD seem wow, i dont know.

The more expensive SSD's blow everything away. My old Sansung SSD loads apps instant and windows loads 10x's faster than my Velociraptor.

what exactly is trim on a ssd?

It's an ATA specification that, when used with a supporting OS - Windows 7, will help keep the drive performing at it's peak (by cleaning used cells during idle time after permanent deletions (such as emptying your recycle bin) to make sure that your writes are always fast).

As for this drive having TRIM, I thought only the new V+ drives had TRIM, not the older V series drives (but I could be wrong).
