I just got back from Circuit City. They have Kingston Value Ram PC2700 DDR 256 MB for $59.99. There are 2 rebates, one for $23 and one for $22, so, after MIRs, it's $14.99.

Best Buy has the R K-Byte 256MB PC2700 DDR Ram for $44.99 with $30.00 rebate = $14.99...

Kingston it's NOT !!!!! But It's a way to get another 256 MB if you need it. The 512MB is $69.99 AR.

Redrain:frown:

Looks like I'm going to CC for some Kingston.

There's a white sticker on it that says, "Not Dual Channel Compatible."

Can someone help me with what is the better option here.

I had bought some of the PNY PC2700 DDR 256MB sticks last week at $29.99 AR.
These sticks have Spectek chips on them

So today I went out and picked up some of the Kingston Value Ram (KVR333/256R) at CC - PC2700 DDR 256MB CL2.5 - at $14.99 AR - HOWEVER, there is a sticker on the Kingston boxes saying

"256MD, 333 mhz DDr, Desktop Systems 266 Mhz compatable, Not Dual-Channel Compatible"

Does this mean these Kingston sticks aren't Dual Channel Compatible - even though they are advertised as PC2700 333mhz DDR CL2.5

I haven't returned the PNY sticks yet but will if these Kingston are Dual Channel for my Dell 4600. If they aren't dual channel, what impact will it have on my systems performance

Thanks

This is odd, I wasn't aware that there were DIMMs that weren't "dual channel compatible" as long as they were of the same brand/size/speed. I also have a Kingston ValueRAM 512 PC2700 stick on my DC capable MB. Does this mean I can't buy another KVR 512 PC2700 stick to do dual channel? If I remember correctly, I don't remember seeing any disclaimer about not being DC compatible on my valueram package. I also bought this almost 6 months ago.

Bought one of these sticks 2 weeks ago at Circuit City when they had the price mistake.

I'm running the Kingston along with a 256MB stick of PC2100 Crucial in dual channel @ 333Mhz on an Abit NF7S. Both Bios and Windows confirm this. I'd say they're trying to get u to buy their more expensive stuff instead.

Bought this about an hour ago. Does anyone know if I can send in for this rebate if I already sent in the last rebates when CC had their price mistake 2 weeks ago

Two rebates for a total of $45 seems like a lot for a 256MB stick of DDR. What RAM chips is Kingston using in these days?

5 hours of looping 3dmark01 thats good enough for me.

this is with the kingston chips 4 sticks for 1gb total on a 800 FSB P4 3.2GHZ with the 4/5 divider.

so the ram was runnig 160mhz spd and the difference in 3dmark01 with a GF4 ti4600 everything at stock speeds "Its a dell" the differnece was 325 marks, in other word very little difference from PC3200, the performance difference will be more with a faster video card, maybe 500marks with a 9800pro or XT or something, but this ram was about $70.00 after tax and rebates for 1gb, the cheapest PC3200 1gb of K-byte that might run pc3200, was about twice as much money after rebate at fry's last month.

so if you can get the kingston chips that don't say "not dual channel compatible" you should be good to go.

i did the rebate last week to and it was for $10.00, it was a totally different ammount and the dates were different too.

there should be no problem with these rebates, they keep runnig rebate over again for a week or less each time, so every time they do this you can get the same ram again real cheap.

When they had the WDSE 160gigers with a 200giger in the box i got 1 from Bestbuy the first week and 1 from Circuit city the next week , and already got all my rebate for both, because even though it was a $70.00 manufacture rebate for each drive, the one ran for 7 days and the next one ran the next 7 days after that, so they were a totally different rebate.

These ram sticks work in dual channel despite Kingston's warning saying they are not dual channel compatible (personally tested). I believe this is Kingston's marketing strategy in persuading people to opt for the higher end HyperX modules.

Has anyone used these in a Dell 4600?
I just bought one last week in the "Outrageous Dell Deal" and would like to buy 2 of these to up the total ram to 1GB.
But I wanna be sure they work in dual channel. Also I am not sure if they are the correct speed.

i picked up 2 of those kingston ram that specifically said (only that was available) "not dual channel compatible". my 400sc has no problems so far in running in dual channel mode. so i now have 512mb k-byte mem from Best Buy and 512mb kingston mem from CircuitCity for a total of 1gb, all in dual channel (bios also shows dual) for ~70 after MIR total.

I emailed Kingston and rec'd a reply today that was a bunch of hooey.

In essence, you are right, its simply a marketing ploy. They say their regular ram is tested much more than this to ensure compatability with each name brand computer maker, etc, etc

Their Value Ram, while tested 100%, is not tested in each name brand OEM machine. It is for those who buy memory by spec, or for generic machines.

Went into more detail than that - but the way I read it is the Value Ram will run dual channel - they just want you to buy the highr priced stuff
