Does anyone know how high each of these can overclock too? I'm debating over which one to get. Obviously the Mushkin is the better of the two here, but there's also a price difference of almost $40. Can someone help me!!!

Basically, there's a world of difference in the two.

The Kingston is guaranteed CAS2 at 100 MHZ. Kingston has been using a wide variety of mfr's for their value rams lately and while some have received infineon chips which overclock very well, others have received more generic types - which may work up to 125MHZ at CAS3 memory timing but not necessarily beyond.

The Mushkin is certified to run at CAS2 at 133 MHZ and the general concensus is that it is capable of significantly more in most instances.

If your overclocking plans include increasing the memory frequency you're best advised to go with the faster PC133 CAS2 memory which will often allow speeds up to and sometimes beyond 140 MHZ will allowing continued use of the faster CAS2 memory timing and usually will tolerate 150 MHZ at the slower CAS3 timing.

There are actually 3 timing elements that are controllable in most motherboards - Precharge, RAS/CAS and CAS latency. when a memory device is called CAS2 it's usually able to run all three timing parameters at the faster 2 clock times for each of the three elements. A CAS3 device generally wants all three set to 3 clock times which makes CAS3 memory slower.

The faster memory provides a faster overall system when able to run at CAS2 and better chance of increasing memory speed beyond it's rated speed - either due to the devices actually being able to run at faster than spec'd or by allowing higher speed through the use of the slower (more tolerant) memory clocking by backing off to CAS3 if needed above 133 MHZ.

Thanks KR for the reply.

What concerns me most is that I can almost get another stick of the Kingston Ram since its so much cheaper than the pc133 ram. I'm gonna be running on an AX6bc or an BX6-Rev 2 motherboard with a p3-450. I'm not sure how high these can go, but I'm guess not very much past 133. What makes me want to consider pc133 ram is that I might be planning an upgrade somewhere in the near future, and when I do, I might be trying to run a system above pc133. So would you think its a good idea to buy pc100 ram now, and then upgrade to pc133 later (when it might also be cheaper)? Or should I just buy the pc133 now? Thanks
