Kingston 1GB MicroSD card for $9.95 shipped at meritline. if you haven't ordered from them before, no worries, they're great. i like them better than newegg, but obviously they don't have as broad a selection.

That's a great price w/o a rebate. I paid 20.00 each with a 10.00 MIR for mine when Buy.com had them in December. But this is the best deal I've seen for 1GB micro. For those that forgot or didn't know, this can also be used as a regular SD card because it comes with an adapter. I checked the spped on mine and it's a little under 4 MB/sec write for large files (259MB) and a little under 2.5 MB/sec for multiple small files (500KB to 1 MB). The read speed of the card was 10 MB/sec using HDTach.

Damn, I got one from them last month for $15.95 with free shipping. It did take them a week to email me the tracking info, but at that price who is complaining. Card arrived 10 days after ordered, but again its FREE shipping.

Mention meritline in the title. I almost skipped over it without that. I just assume its TD or such. Meritline makes this truly hot.

Can you provide some frame of reference as to how fast or slow that is? e.g., in comparison to 40X cards, or even better, a general qualitative feel as to how well that would work in a digital camera? (I figure that's one of the applications where card speed is most important)

i'm guessing they're getting ready to release the 4gig versions soon, finally, so the manufacturers are probably trying to clear inventory before these are worth $4.

The speed ratings are 150KB/sec being X. So a 40X card is a 6 MB read, 60X is 9.0 MB/sec read. Companies may give you an X rating based on the read speeds because they are always higher than the write speed, which are equally or more important. Kingston doesn't give you an X speed on the micro cards below, but they do give a read/write speed for the SD cards, (also below).
Kingston gives a read/write speed on the regular SD card on the below link The specs look like 36X read (5MB/sec) and 10 write(1.5 MB/sec). I own several of these cards and those numbers are on the lower side. I benched these cards ( I own several of this model) and they were closer to 60X read and 30-40X write. So they were a little better than Kingston bench. I use these above standard cards in my Canon A620 (7.1 megapixel) for pictures and movie mode and I have never had a problem of it lagging. I cannot say what these would be in higher resolution cameras.

To equate the micro SD cards based on an X rating from what I did, I would venture a guess that the read speed is at least 60X and the write speed is 15 X to 25X, depending on file size.

Data sheet SD cards
Data sheet Kingston microSD

Kingston also has a link here that tells their story on speed ratings. I guess that their X rating is based on the write speed because they feel it is more important to the card users. Kingston's take on the speed ratings are here

From their website:
When comparing the X-speed ratings of Flash cards from different manufacturers, users need to beware that manufacturers define this rating differently and in some cases do not define it at all. Some definitions refer to the X-speed as "read" speed or "write" speed. Others use it to mean both and call it "data transfer" speed (referring to read and write speed). Kingston uses the "write" speed (found at www.kingston.com/flash) as the basis for its X-speed rating.

I just dropped $50ish on flash stuffs from Meritline, including this mcSD for an inbound Moto RAZR. I got to the site via some deal listed on dodtracker. I browsed around, checked resellerratings and realized that this etailer is great.

Be careful with the MotoRazr and the MicroSD ... it can only see and use a 1GB MicroSD Card Maximum
As an aside, be careful if you buy from A-Depot .. they list thru Amazon.com and while they ship quick,
they do not reply to emails if you have a problem. I bought a Sandisk 2GB MicroSD for $68 from them and
now I find that my computer will only see 1GB of the card .. so it is either Defective or remarked / mismarked
I am going to say Defective since Diskmanagement sees 1 active and 1 inactive partiton of similar sizes, but
I was not able to make the Non Active Partition active .. have an RMA into Sandisk .. waiting for the paperwork
They say they will exchange it.
