King's Bounty: The Legend (2008)

Over the past few months I've been slowly playing through the stuff I bought for super cheap during the holiday Steam sales. I started this game a few days ago and I really enjoy it so far.

I can best describe it as a perfect blend of Ogre Battle's tactical grid combat with tons of troop/monster types, and Warcraft 3's colorful maps and its loot-mongering, quest-driven storyline.

Definitely not everybody's cup of tea, though. /blog

Did anyone on these forums ever give this game a go?

I did and I loved it. I put in according to Steam 83.3 hours into it. Beat it a little while ago now. Just recently started playing the sequel, King's Bounty: Armored Princess and am enjoying it as well.

Cool. I made a mage and I've made it to level 7 with a lot of trial and error. I'm slowly starting to grasp concepts. It's hard to find info for this game!

What level did you beat it at? Just wondering how long the game goes on for.

I want to say it was lvl 31? That is the max lvl you can reach. I really enjoyed the game, I played through as a Paladin. When you start unlock pandora's box it is just awesomeness 😀

I own it and put about 10 enjoyable hours into it before I got derailed by LoL. I fully intend to finish it at some point.

Yeah I did and finished it as well. It really was a pretty fun experience considering it had a very familiar HOMM feel to it all. I too played as a cheesy mage.

Armored Princess is the sequel and I didn't get around to finishing it. Truth be told it actually is more stream-lined than the original and a bit easier with your pet dragon, but it kinda felt more of the same and I've been on hiatus with it ever since. I might pick it up and finish it sometime.

Either way if you loved KBTL, you should love AP even more.

Yea - i played both too many times. A third game for q3 2010 was announced yesterday. It is basically kb-ap with an addition to the existing plot line and it will include an editor; so eventually we will see user additions.

This game is super poplular in russia (not surprising given the developer is in rusia). I used to liked heroes of magic (I think iii was my favorite) but could never get hero of magic v or that other game (the one that everyone raves about but I thought sucked; the third one comes out in a few months).

Anyways I would definitly give kb/kb-ap a thumb up and one of the best games the past couple of years (games like da are stories; not games 🙂 )

I played it for a bit but it didnt hook me.

I Likd Homm series. This one didnt grab me quite as much.

Been tempted to give it another try.

Could anyone explain this "rage" meter to me? It's a number that goes up and down, but I have no clue what it does for me.

EDIT: ok found something that says it allows me to summon "rage spirits"... whatever those are. lol

Don't worry about rage for awhile. Once you get the box and can use it things will make sense 😀

Dude, they're a major part of the game. Great for thinning out the mobs.

Are you talking about Disciples I & II? Cause I loved that game 😛

Made a thread about this or tacked info onto an old thread a long time ago.

Personally I found KB to be superior to both HoMM 3 and 5, mainly because it plays a bit smoother with the real time interface. The turnbased part of the game feels more developed than HoMM3/5 too.

i played it and the expansion, loved them both but they are in no way superior to the legendary HoMM 3.

KB is Art, HoMM 3 is Science.

Yea - I found disciples ii very limited and boring (I played it after playing kb where I had played heroes ii and iii years ago). I played heroes 5 recently and disliked it (adding time frames in case it matters).

For disciples ii i purchased one of those ocmplete game packs from target for $10 and played hte campaign.

Played and beat it. Did a bunch of mods and made a few of my own and beat it again.

Mage and paladin are the best two. Mage is, especially if you are willing to do things to get more troops to bring it up.

Such as what things? Curious.

Well, you can cheese the entire game if you just have a single stack of black dragons (other dragons work too, but black dragons have immunity to magic, which helps against enemy heroes).

Your black dragon has the highest initiative in the game, so you can always go first. With the spirits of rage, you can use the armor power to shield your black dragon for one turn, and then cast armageddon. As a high-level mage with 35+ intellect and a good build, you can dish out about 6K damage to every stack with a single armageddon. Your black dragon is protected by the armor.

Then, use your black dragons to clean up. If necessary, you can cast armageddon again on the same turn, and next turn use the time back power to resurrect any dead black dragons. If done right, this allows you to do 12K+ damage to every enemy stack on the first turn, while keeping all your black dragons.

The end game "boss" fight against 8 stacks of dragons was ridiculously easy with this strategy; this strat pretty much breaks the game.

I remember reading the boards.

Impossible runs with 0 deaths.... and people were making the game even harder with challenges. I could barely win fights 😀

It's a lot of fun.. until you get like 20 hours into it and and its just the same thing over and over and over

yeah, this. I made it further than 20 hours, but I never did finish it because it just got too repetitive. Was fun until then though.

I just love it.I take a look at some of the powers and abilities a fully developed character will wield in King's Bounty. The graphics are simply awesome.Kudos to the art team. Real care went into the tropical beaches, dark forests and eerie swamps of King's Bounty.
