King of the Hill: TJO7 v pc-v2000

I  Lian Li, working with the two mid-towers I have has been a joy. They are both good cases. There are some here that have done very nice WCed builds with the V-2000.

But (*nervous*)having never seen or touched the TJ07 it would be my choice if offered either.

Why.? I think the build quality might be better, I never really cared for the mesh LL started using, the TJ07 has the mainboard oriented properly for heat piped mainboards and after market VGA coolers, I like 92mm fans 🙂 the better designers fled CoolerMaster and started Silverstone(I'm a Reb, I'm only Galvanized), Silverstone is offering some very well speced PSUs(OEMed by Enhance), Silverstone has offered some trick fans, the outer frame is just about bullet proof(bet the TJ07 weighs more than the V-2000).

That's it for now, might come back later.

Very Helpful as always GY!!!

In your post, are you saying you work for SilverStone ?

you are right about the weight: 28 lbs for the SS vs 15-20 pounds according to clubOC

Oh no thug.! My intent was not to misrepresent myself. I have restored several Brit sports cars and classic bikes so I tend to really look at built structure. Must be why I'm so fond of aluminum. 🙂
Over a year ago I did read the design team was really up in arms about CoolerMaster's road map for cases. They left feeling they could do better, they started Silverstone for the ppl that wanted a cut above the rest and the job they are doing ain't too shabby.

The super stiff frame will really be appreciated if the case is ever modded for a radiator, good stuff.

I was just shooting from the hip with that first post. I didn't look up the cost but I bet the JT07 costs more. But if you wanted a bargain full tower in aluminum the PC-75 at performance-pcs for $199 would fill the bill but it would need a fan mod as it only has ports for 80s.

160 shipped at Monarch 😀

Trevor, that is the PC-70, it's the same as the PC-75 but w/o the window panel.
The PC-75 at performance has a window, two optical covers and a FDD cover for $199+shipping.
My heart is kind of set on the Akasa Eclipse 62, I've modded it in my mind already 😛

Even with the price differance($60+), I like the TJ07 much better.

Have you seen one Thug.? The only stores I go into are CompUSA, PC Club, Best Buy and Fry's, none of those places have high-end case on display.

Bah. Who needs a panel 😉 For the 40 dollars, you can cut your own window and plexi 😛

Though I'll admit that if money was no object, I'd go for the TJ07; no question about it.

I'm not sure about the TJ07. While it looks great, I'm not sure how quiet it would be, since it looks like you'd be using FIVE case fans, even if you only use one hard drive cage. Also, what sort of airflow pattern are they going for? Are the top 120's intakes or exhausts? If it were me, I'd make them intakes and use the two 92's as exhaust, but even then, it looks like the warm exhausted air from the 92's could be easily sucked back through the 120's, especially if the case were underneath a desk. On the other hand, if the 120's were meant to be the exhaust, that would mean that the 92's would be the intake fans; but this is pointless because they're directly above the exhaust of the psu, so which way is it?

As for the V2000, it's huge and you can fit like twelve hard drives in it, sure, but when you look at the main motherboard compartment you only have the one 120mm exhaust, and no active intake. The one intake fan is for the hard drives only, and is completely isolated from the rest of the case.

In conclusion, I don't think I'd get either of these cases, even if I did have 400 dollars to throw around. I still prefer my modded Lian Li PC-7B. 😀

thats the other problem. i have yet to see a single store carry either model. I HATE buying cases w/o a close, in person inspection

Well, you do live in N.Hollywierd(Sig) 😉 L.A.Co is a big place and a search could lead you to a B&M that has a TJ07 in stock. Let us know if you find on for a hands on look.
I feel in love with the WaveMaster at Fry's and might get one for sis and switch her gear over. It's in a low-end SkyHawk at present. The WaveMaster has a very poorly desiged intake set-up but is very pretty. The intake WOULD be modded first.

Are you going WCed?? Are you into modding abit?? Do you want a serious reccomendation w/modding tips?? It will all be shooting from the hip but if you *want* to talk, I'm willing. Got chores to do now but will respond if you are interested.
If you indicate interest, others with hands on can offer you much.

i do a little bid of modding

Currently, i have a TJ03. I have stealthed the drives, cut some wholes in the mobo tray for wire management (with your help 😉), and made a custom rheobus.
But now i'm out of ideas and the case looks plain boring.

WC is a no no for me. i move around too much and i dont want to deal with potential problems. the only other alternative cooling i may be using is the OCZ phase change when and if it comes out

the reason why i like these big cases is because they are sooooo easy to work with. On a side note, can you all recommend a good PSU with loooooong cables for $100-125??? preferablly sleeved but not a must (i can do it myself if i have to)

I forgot about that mobo tray thread. Hope it worked out OK and use bee's wax as an aluminum cutting agent. Don't use it on files. If you want a very fine finish on aluminum file work, load the file first with white chalk 😉 Works.!

Having two LLs already with things modded to fit, would drive me to get a full tower LL but that is not going to happen now. With the popularity of WCing driving the heat pipe cooled HSs so hard the war is pretty even.

SPCR in it's reviews provideds cable lengths.
There is a stickied PSU thread at the moment in GH, read it.
The last PSU I bought was a Zippy/Emacs HG-2 6400P. All the cables are 22" with the exception of one 4pin Molex lead being 30". It can be had for $89. 5V@35A,3.3V@28A, 12V@30A@40C, you will be hard pressed to find better at this price. The Enermax Liberty is 12V combind @32A. If your interested in a Zippy, PM me to talk about it. I have none f/s 🙂

Modular or not look at the Silverstone Strider series, they are made by Enhance(a VG builder) to Silverstone spec.
Before you buy another antec psu, go to www.badcaps.net and read the PSU threads over there. I've been doing alot of reading over there lately. Some very interesting stuff.
For quiet look at the S-12 Seasonics.
Look at the Enermax PSUs.
Buy the Zippy/Emacs 😛

I am willing to cut, splice and heat shrink, so cable lengths are a non-issue for me.
Near you, allelectronics.com sells VG heat shrink cheap, as well as 18AWG wire. 😉

Lets us know if you get a hands on with the TJ07.
