Why is that odd? They both know they can f*ck eachother up if they play too rough...

Give two guys who are fighting each a gun, and the first to land a bullet is the victor.

King cobras do their dance, and the loser just leaves unharmed and gives up his territory.

I seriously doubt their venom is poisonous to themselves. Do you think they store it in a totally seperated and entirely sealed system in their heads?

Kind of like a B-Boy battle.

i remember hearing that with some snakes, you can make them drool, poisoning them. perhaps cobras are different, but probably not.

Even if it wasn't, they can still peck each other to death.

Snakes are immune to their own venom. Same way Chinese emperors were made immune to common poisons by ingesting small doses of the poison so their body could learn how to deal with it.

True it is not poisonous to themselves. Yes they have venom sacs which store the venom for ejection via a tubule in their mouth (cobras) or via their fangs (more common snakes).

In the animal world, it does no species any good to kill another of its own kind. This is why most deadly animals have rituals and generally do little harm to one another when it comes to chance encounters.

You have described a ritual of dominance. There is no need to fight to the death over territory in this instance.

WTF?

All venomous snakes inject venom with fangs. The spitting cobra (I believe is what you are refering to) is no different. The venom is ejected through the fangs and is aimed at the eyes of would be attackers.

The only time a fight to the death occures in the deffence of the pride. The male lion will also kill the cubs of the previous male lion. This is to remove them from the gene pool.
