I see this on STEAM for sale. Watched some youtube vids and it looks somewhat interesting. Gamespot gave it a 7.0 and said it was pretty hard on easy difficulty and that game balance wasn't too good due to some over powered character/units. Anyone here tried it yet? If so, whats the verdict? Good? Bad? Average?

Normally, I prefer games about King Graham. ;)

King Arthur the RPG received an impressive rating amongst users on metacritic. Let us know how it goes if you pick it up!

There is a demo available. I saw it up on Gamershell and Filefront yesterday. Maybe you should try that first.

The demo is also available on Steam. I tried it last night and didn't like it. I tend to like RTS's that feature a lot of unit customization and I didn't see that in the first few stages of the Arthur demo. Maybe it gets deeper once you get out of the tutorial. :p

I think it is sweet, pretty good graphics, unique in the game play but it is unbalanced. I am only a couple of hours in and I can not beat this one mission. For some reason my units are just not strong enough...I am thinking about just letting the side quest/mission expire. Lucky I got it on the steam say for like 10 bucks during the holidays. If I were you I would baragin bin it... unless you are an rts nut and need a new fix.

Strong points
-unique units depending on how you act in the game.(moral choice, which side you picked)
-quests(not just fighting all the time, these effect your good/bad rep in the game)
-story
-battles(they add actual stradegy to the game aka magic spells, points to hold on the map, stamina for soldiers)
-"heroes"?(well you acquire knights for the round table, they gain levels, get skills and they seem to have different magic spells)

Weak points
-ITS HARD!!!(but thats cause it loves us and wants us to try hard, also seems to be replayability by making it so hard so that later on perhaps when you run through it again you ll do better)

It should be noted that there are NO FORMATIONS in this game. All units are initially bunched in a box, and when they engage the formation is immediately broken, and chaos ensues. You can form some units into a wedge to have shock effect, but that is about it.

These facts alone make me not want to play King Arthur, but it is otherwise a very nice game. A mix between Total War with some Warhammer: Dark Omen/Shadow of The Horned Rat. (But that's probably giving too much credit, as nothing that came out after Dark Omen can compare to it)

There are only two formations that matter: spreading them out will decrease the effectiveness of enemy archers but lower their effectiveness in melee. Bunched up is the opposite.

The other big thing about this game is that the developers have admitted the AI cheats which is the biggest reason why the game is hard. You will almost always fight superior forces in every battle because that's how the game works. The challenge is to skillfully outmaneuver the AI. The "auto-battle" function should be relabeled "auto-lose" because I've never seen it actually win a fight for me which defeats the purpose of trying to skip over a boring, inconsequential battle. Again, this is no doubt a product of the fact that enemy forces are almost always superior and so when left to the AI to control, it will lose.

Archers are ridiculously powerful in the early part of the game before you get counters (other than the Fog of Avalon spell). Although this works to your own advantage as well and I've decimated enemy armies with just 3-4 archer units.

Overall, the game brings a lot of really cool elements to the genre Total War has dominated, but the execution is a little off.

I think I'll hold off and see if they balance the gameplay. It does look pretty graphically speaking but if the gameplay is off then I'd just be unhappy. Really hard difficult games just fustrate me to no end. Thanks for the replies. :)

I enjoy the game quite a bit. It has some problems but I like the whole feel of it and style

I was just gonna ask the same question.

I saw it on steam and wanted to know what you guys thought about it.

I heard the game is brutal tho, meaning easy is enough to rape you unless you know what you are doing.

But how is the loadup on the maps? Is it like Total war (where u can go take a pee and come back to see the map hasnt loaded yet).
