The peripheral has had fail written on it since conception. Same for the Move. Unless the gimmick is proprietary (like the Wii) it will not be successful.

Pretty much a given. We'll see what kind of bundles they come up and the pricing. Supposedly the Kinect/Elite bundle will be $399, but it has not been officially announced.

My wife is now bugging me about getting a new 360 along with the Kinect for the main purpose for our den/exercise room, to replace our launch 360 which may finally be on it's last legs. She read about the "The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout", and how great it's going to be :)

No Elite bundle announced but MS did announce an Arcade bundle that includes the new 4GB 360, Kinect and Kinect Adventures for $299.

This is most likely an investment in a continuing technology. Microsoft probably won't make much off (if any) Kinect this generation, however it's plausible that it will be built into the next generation console.

Is anyone else amused at the fact that Joy Ride is now a $50 Kinect game? It was originally supposed to be a free XBLA game.

You know... I want to say this thing is going to fail, but people pay $100-$200 for these Guitar Hero and Rock Band bundles without a problem. And since Dance Central will probably be a huge hit, what's another $150 for the kinect?

Personally, I couldn't care less whether this thing fails or not. What I do not want is for the kinect to be required for the next-gen consoles. I prefer to sit on the couch with a controller like I've been doing for the last 15+ years.

Well, not necessarily free. It was going to be a "fee-to-play" game that would have gamers paying for new cars, clothing, tracks, etc past the free base game.

I played the Kinect Joy Ride demo at Macy's and it wasn't too bad actually. Seemed to detect my movements ok. Hard to get a feel for the game as a whole on a one track demo though.

LOL, didn't know that! Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous for a driving game where you can't use the gas or brake.

I feel the same way as you except I really, really want the Kinect to fail miserably. Not so miserably that MS exits the console business, but badly enough that they completely give up on motion control. I fear that what you are afraid of (Kinect being required for too many games) will happen if it doesn't fail.

Yea, I just don't want the companies to become segmented and produce half-assed games. I mean, if you like motion control gaming...great! Now go buy a wii, since that's what they do best. Now, every console company wants a piece of that pie. That pisses me off since they should be focusing on what they do best, and not just make rip-offs of wii games.

I mean, at the price points available, why would anyone choose the kinect over the wii (right now)? At $200 the wii is all included and has a library of titles spanning a couple of years.

The way kinect is shaping up is to be an experiment for MS's next console in the same way Xbox Live and Live arcade was. They both existed on the original xbox but weren't embraced like they are with the 360.

Just FYI, MS has stated that Kinect can be used with "core" games as well as casual games. It will likely be used to "enhance" the experience though and not necessarily take direct control though. Aaron Greenberg has stated that there will be games that use the Xbox 360 controller and Kinect eventually.

It just better not be a two year wait.

I think most "core" gamers are feeling this way. The reason for playing games is to sit back and relax, I don't want to be jumping all over my living room. MS and Sony have really done things backwards here. Nintendo drew in casual gamers by introducing the Wii with motion controls for the casual gamers, then released the real games to appeal to the core gamer audience (zelda, mario, etc.)

For MS and Sony motion controls are an afterthough (whether they are more advanced than the Wii's or not). Chances are that people interested in motion games have already bought a Wii, and aren't willing to spend another $450 - $500 for another console just for HD.

^^^ Uhm, you don't need to jump over your living room with the PS3's Move. Core gamers can sit back with it and play core games just fine without any excessive motions at all:

I was referring to Kinect specifically, since you will not be able to play sitting down. I expect PS move will be very similar too the Wii as far as the amount of motion which is involved.

I thought it has been stated you could play sitting down? I don't remember seeing any kind of standing requirement. Honestly, I don't see how this will fail. People, including myself, pay that and more for arcade sticks for a handful (3-4) fighting games. I'm sure the market for this is larger than that. I don't see Hori hurting for money.

At least currently there are no Kenect games announced which will have the ability to play sitting down. Personally I do not feel the desire to purchase either the Kenect or the Move.

I think Sony can make it work if they market it right. The library of Move compatible games looks stronger. It's also backwards compatible with existing titles like LittleBigPlanet.

The price is going to kill Kinect I think. Sony tried pretty much the same thing with the EyeToy and that didn't do so well. Kinect's software lineup looks fairly weak so far. A lot of Wii-esque shovelware titles.

Both reek of Power Glove though. Motion control: promising to change the way we game for 21 years, and still not delivering. Obligatory...

I think GameStop is just wrong. Amazon and GameStop have had Kinect games listed for a while so they probably just need to be updated.

yea when you click throuhg actually the prices are $50, so at least they are sticking to that ... for now... cause Xbox 360 first party games were supposed to stay at $50 and that lasted for all of but like 2 months, if that.

and yes i am hating on the kinect!!!
