Kindle & .txt files

So, I may be getting a kindle in a few weeks because of the price drop. One cool thing about ebooks is that you can get classic literature for free on Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/) and other sites. Most of these ebooks are in .txt format. Does the kindle .txt well? How do you load a Project Gutenberg file on the kindle?
