Cliff notes:

1) We tried to be nice and trust participants of the challenge to follow the rules.
2) Some people cheated.
3) We added a script to check for valid dates on submitted photos.
4) Some people still cheated.
5) We might have to embarass you publicly if you keep cheating.
6) We like letting people vote on the winners.
7) Some photographers are really talented and we like the response to the panning challenge.

Yes, the Brits can write very well, as can many of their former colonials. However, I think that that article is not an example of good writing. Good writing ought to be clear, and that article, while including various details which help in the picture, as I just did, and often do by the way, makes the point hard to get because of the various interjections, as you or anyone else can insert whenever they feel, and feel and broadly think they should, but make the basic point hard to get. Doesn't it?

If you ever want to read some classic English/British writing that isn't too hard to follow check out the original Sherlock Holmes stories. Written in the 1890's I think, the elegance of the English language is on full display (and the stories are pretty enjoyable too). My dad picked up the whole original set from auction awhile back and I could not put them down.
