Staples has Pacific Digital 24x CDRW drive (rebadge Lite-on) Link for $119.98 with $30.00 MIR. Use coupon.

Recap

+119.98 Pacific Dig. 24x (sku 471101)
- 25.00 25 off 100....expires 1/4, or 20 off 100 can be found
- 30.00 MIR good for $30 until 1/12? or 20 MIR until 1/31
+ 7.19 6% Cincy tax
------------

Maybe something free after rebate could be added so that a better coupon could be used at $150 range?

Also, B&M have these for 129.99, not sure why. Could possibly use as pricematch with Circuit City who have $50 in MIR on this drive (oos in my area, oh well).

This is better than "kinda hot" assuming that it is a rebadged Lite-on. I got a rebadged 24x Liteon burner from OfficeMax.com just before Xmas for about $75-80 net, after rebate and that was the best deal around then.

24x Lite-On burner is an excellent product.

I have 24x Pacific Digital from Sam's (Paid 74.00) it is Lite-On, says so on sticker on top of drive. I did not actually buy one of these yet, so I am not sure why the online rebate would cause any problems. I accessed it and printed one.

I also have another Lite-On 24x I ordered from Newegg for 86 + 4 s&h, I did not realize at the time how many were rebadged. I love it, wish I had the 20+ dollars difference though.:)

I love Staples!!!!!

It seems that folks are having issues with the lite-on drives. Don't have one myself, so can't comment. Anyway, you may want to read this thread:

Copy and pasted by me:

Guys, you all read the reviews right, at cdrinfo such as how the LiteOn 24x is pretty much the same as the Plextor 24x. I've owned several burners:

(*currently still have)
Philips 8x
HP 9900i 12x
*SAF SCSI 12x
TDK 12x with BP
Plextor 12x
*Plextor 16x
*Plextor 24x
*LiteOn 24x

I do regret upgrading all my 12x to 24x, including the PLEXTOR 24X!

Reason is that the new 24x burners including LiteOn and Plextor are very picky on media. You may burn the cd fine, but when you use it, you have problems, files can't be read etc. I've had this problem on the Liteon 24x and Plextor 24x. When I had the 12x TDK and Plextor, I never had a single problem on media.

Richard, two people have problems with lite-on burners in that thread, and it's an issue? I've used 3 of them now myself and have installed several others for friends and relatives. All are working flawlessly.

In response to the being picky about types of cd's. I just got my lite-on a couple weeks ago (pacific digital) as I stated earlier in a post. I said i didn't have a problem burning 3 cd's, but 1 of them actually did have a problem. I converted a bunch of mp3's to wavs and burned to a cd-r that i borrowed from my friend. Just did cdr identifier on the cd and it's a Prodisc Technology Inc. cd, dye phthalocyanine (type 9). Anyways, when I played it in my panasonic cd player a couple times it has trouble reading the cdr, some of the tracks it reads perfectly while some of it stalls and it flashes "sorry" on the lcd screen. First I thought my cd player was bad, but i tried an old audio cd that i had burned at a friends house and all the tracks worked fine. The two data cd's i burned have had no problems. Also with the audio cd it works just fine in my computer, doesn't stall on any of the tracks, only with my cd player. Tested it on my Sony CD player and it has the same problem. Is this because of the pickiness of the cd-rw or maybe just plain bad luck this time around.

I think it's a little of both. Picky CDRW and bad media.

One time I put in those OM Prime Peripherals CDRs. The CDR-Win gave me an error so I thought, maybe I should reboot and try another cdr. Popped in another one and did the same thing. The 3rd time around it worked fine. This was on the Plextor 24x. Then I burned some stuff on the LiteOn 24x, couldn't read a file when I was installing what I had burned on there, maybe it was just bad luck.

I burn a lot of stuff, I usually go through 2 50pack spindles a month. Oh well, both work well, maybe the cdrw didn't like me those days or had a bady day. :D

There are more than just a few people having problems with Lite-On drives. Go to cdrlabs or some other related website and you'll see. I doubt this is just because everyone and their grandma are buying the things left and right. Lite-On has never been known to be quality, just cheap. I swear, just because it gets a few rave reviews stating that it beat out other drives in speed, and can bypass all known forms of current CD Copy Protection, doesn't make this drive good. Some people may be fine with the drive, but a lot of others have had problems.

Again, I wasn't commenting on whether they were good or bad. I don't think that more information is a bad thing. If you hit the "search" button at the top and search for "lite-on", you'll find several other threads where folks are having problems with these drives.

What's the purchase requirement for getting the computer bag? How come you can use $25 off and free computer bag offer at the same time?

Their system is setup in a weird way where you actually can combine coupons but it is dependent on what kinds of coupon. You usually need to add a certain amt, theres no exact way to really calculate it. Only way is to play with the coupons and adding things to your cart.

&^Q%#&#$&@^%#&%@

Why can't I seem to get a Lite-on!?! I order the 24x from Amazon last month hoping for a Lite-on which some got, no luck for me - Aopen.

I just opened my Pacific Digital box and it says Mitsumi CR-4809TE on it!

Mitsumi makes/made great CD-ROMs back in the day of 8X. I don't know much about this model, gonna have to research it.

The only reason I want a Lite-on is for SD2 support cuz I'm getting sick of using my Philips 8x4x32.

Anybody else get a Mitsumi? I'm in LA, so maybe it's regional. Any reviews on this thing?

I'm on crappy Earthlink dial-up so I'll be reading this review for the next 30 minutes :) Review

I just got my drive from the Staples Courier today. It turned out to be the Mitsumi 24x/12x/40x drive with NTI burning software. I'm a bit disappointed because I was hoping for a Lite-on. I read some reviews and the Mitsumi is pretty good but it does not support SD2 burning. oh well. can't do much now!

Man, I am sorry all. I have 2 24x Lite On Drives that came out of Pacific Digital Boxes. One is from Sam's and the other is from Staples B&M here in Cincinnati. I guess they order from different sources. Take it to a Staples B&M and swap it for a different one. The worst that can happen is that it is same thing. I would then return it if not Lite-On.

I have a friend that got a Pacific Digital from Circuit City B&M that is Lite On.

If you got this drive and it is a Lite-On then update ypur firmware to fix the problems it has here.....

Lite-On Firmware LOOKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what it does...

1. Reduce failure rate when burning.
2. Fit for new hardware design.
3. The firmware can fit all 24X CD-RW
(Just do It !)

The put the "Just do It !" in there, not me. So it must be a good firmware update.

Anybody used it yet??? Did it fix your problems???

That firmware upgrade works in ANY 24x Burner? Interesting.......I'm skeptical. Is anyone feeling adventurous?

What's Staples' return policy on this kind of stuff? I didn't even install the drive, just opened the shrink wrap to see it was a Mitsumi. Do they charge a surcharge?

As much as I would love to stick it to Staples for initiating a huge headache 2 months ago, I don't feel right about buying multiple boxes until I feel the Lite-on as they lose money on each open box (I think).

God no. It seems obvious that it means it works on any 24x burner MADE BY LITEON. Remember that a lot of LiteOn drives are sold under other names.

Well, not so obvious. I have read multiple threads/websites that have implied doing just that. I am not willing to do it, maybe someone else has? Just interested.
