Even though it's not that bad, *I* didn't find it particularily offensive, but now that someone has noticed it and wrote an article about it, somone's gonna get canned!

I had to refresh a bunch of times to get it up on zdnet.

I'd say it's poor taste in "ideas" given the recent tragedy.

*comment taken out in response to Hungrypete's post* :)

I think it's time for MS to go back to the drawing board.

Wow that is really bad.... I really hope the MS's advertising firm did that or they'll be getting a whole lotta flack from that one. I can't believe zdnet would even let that be displayed on their website. However they make thier money i guess.

I can see how you would think that they are toppling towers, but if you see the ad on ZDNet, with the rotating sun, you can see that the towers are supposed to be situated like clock hands, not falling. The clouds around them do look like the dust clouds from the WTC, but they're really just supposed to be clouds.

I agree, it's no big deal. Unfortunately now that the Reg has run an article on it, someone is in trouble, :)

<< I'd say it's poor taste in "ideas" given the recent tragedy.

And in all fairness, i don't know where and how it was really proven that MS Servers is as rock-solid and capable as they say it is. Even MSNBC which obviously runs on a MS Server/IIS environment had to revert to renaming the .asp pages to _asp.html when it was bombarded with requests during the WTC event. Proof that ASP can't handle the load? You decide.

Slashdot easily kept running inspite of the almost 3 million hits for that day alone. (4-5x their normal daily load).

I think it's time for MS to go back to the drawing board.
>>

on those days msnbc was getting more then 25 million hits a day, your pathetic slashdot couldnt handle anthing close to that load. besides comparing a tech site to a major news site is the most aburd comparision you could have made.

nah, he just criticized ASP, you seem to have been very offended by it, Redmondboy :D

Seriously though, we can't go and ban all ads with towers in them, but the MS ad was poorly timed and has some striking similarities to some current events.

poor timing and strange coincidence is bad enough.

trying to imply ms is insensitive to the issue, or using this incredible tradgedy to further a technical debate is worse.

now im done.

Take it easy ameesh. No need to get all uptight about it. Was just giving my opinions, didn't mean to annoy or insult anyone.

If you really want to continue with this discussion let's do PM. :)
