Kind of an odd question...

I'm going to be getting a laptop for college. I've realized that in the past few months I barely play any games, so i don't want a hardcore gaming machine, however, I really want a nice powerful computer that will be able to get me through four years. Anyway, I think I've found the lappy for me.... The problem is, I'm going to be paying for at least 60% of this and thus I'm going to sell my current desktop. Here are my system's specs:

AthlonXP 1700+ never o/ced
Epox 8k7a mobo
256 megs Crucial DDR
30 gig WD HDD
30 gig Maxtor HDD
4x burner
DVD drive
440 watt Antec TruePower powersupply

First, how much will this be worth? And second, how much will it lose value over the next few months. The reason I ask is because I don't need the latest and greatest when I go to college and if I can get $150 more for this stuff now vs. waiting six months, I will buy the laptop now.

Thanks!

I would say the most you can get for it if you sell it to a computer saavy person would be $350. The case and power supply would probably hold their value the longest, maybe $75-$100 if you have a good case with the PS, at most $50 for the processor, $50 for the mobo, $40 for each drive and $50 - $100 for the rest of the stuff. Used computers don't give you much of a return when you sell them because new stuff is so cheap. You can get 80 gig7200 rpm drives for $100 these days and 40x burners for $80. You might be able to dump it on some guy who wants a computer for $500, but it'd be a stretch. So if you're going to sell it now's always the best time. Why not just keep it and buy your laptop at the last minute. Stuff will always getting cheaper and faster, this will tide you over til then and you can earn an extra $150 by getting a job.
