Kind of a stupid question about milk...

So um, is there any good way of telling that milk is starting to go bad, besides smell?

I've got a jug of milk here that I just opened; expiration date is 6/16. There are a little white globs of fatty stuff in the cereal bowl here. Problem is, I can't tell if the milk is bad.
I find that fresh milk stinks just as bad as slightly sour milk, so I can't really tell the difference.
Second, it's from a plastic container, which significantly alters the taste in the first place. I can only stand plastic-bottled milk with cereal.
Unfortunately, the only source I know of for milk in cartons is going to be organic milk, which is a bit pricey now.

Was this batch just under-homogenized?

I normally go on taste

We go through milk so fast at our house it never usually will go bad anyways. Together we drink about 1.25L a day

EDIT: yes and chunks are bad

Chunks are bad. It could be under-homogenized or it could be starting to spoil - feel like just eating it to see which?

Still won't make him sick though. The chunks could be a result of a poor homogenization process.

As I just stated even if it were spoiled it is safe to consume.

I just sampled a spoonfull. It tastes as normal as plastic-bottled milk can be.

I'm wary of spoiled milk because I'd rather not spend the rest of the day in the bathroom.

My refrigerator is also quite cold enough. I checked it with a thermocouple. 34°F.

And I was expecting some more amusing replies to this thread, given the "stupid" nature of the OP. ;)

When and if I become lactose intolerant, I'll agree with that.

You won't unless the milk was not properly pasteurized.
