Kind of a dumb question

I just swapped out my mobo, cpu, and video card and somewhat naively assumed that I could plug my old HDD into the new hardware and have everything working as before. Unfortunately, this isn't the case and while my system posts, Windows doesn't boot, even in safe mode.

Will I need some sort of boot disc or the original Windows cd to get windows going? Naturally I would like to keep all of the data on my hard drive. Thanks a bunch.

Yep xp professional. Unfortunately I left my xp cd at home and will have to scrounge up a copy in the meantime to get my computer working again.
