Following through on the recent confirmation of Killzone 3, publisher Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced the PlayStation 3 shooter sequel via the PlayStation.Blog as well as provided several images from the game.

The game will indeed be playable in stereoscopic 3D upon its release. Still no confirmation as to when that release will be, though it's rumored for this year.

Can't wait. This means I need to save for a 3D TV. ^_^

Although the controls sucked, Killzone 2 was the best console FPS I have ever played. It's intensity and graphics were top notch. I won't have a 3D TV anytime soon, but I look forward to this on my 2D Monitor all the same.

I loved the detail of KZ2, the story seemed cool, but I just couldn't get past the controls. I rarely play my PS3 anyways, mainly for exclusives, so being unadjusted with the controller along with the weighted controls just made it not fun for me.

I might still give this a try, but unless the controls are different, I will definitely wait until it is cheaper.

Though I was impressed with the graphical fidelity of KZ2 I just didnt like what they did with it. I think if the game didnt take place in a dirty industrial city for 75% of the game it would have been more appealing to me. The most memorable scenes took place in the desert because it was SO different in tone and aesthetic than the rest of the game.

Plus the melee attack did this weird thing where it spun your visual around everytime you used it. It was kind of annoying.

Well, it looks like they're trying to stay away from the same environments from KZ2, so that will be good.

As for the melee attack, it was definitely weird, but it never spun your visuals around...

Play it again and this time initiate a melee attack and watch the screen push to the side.

Confirmations from various articles reveal that the KZ3 controls are greatly refined. The hands-on impressions from one site says they work great so far. BTW, you'll likely be able to play with the Move controller for more accuracy as well.

Also, they are adding two player full game co-op, as well as four-player campaign episodes (probably similar to Resistance 2's co-op). Every single area in the game is supposed to have a variety of visuals (including colorful lush jungles, space fighting and snow storm areas) to avoid the problem of muted color issue of KZ2. A game level in KZ3 is 10x the size of a level in KZ2, and the game play is a lot more action based and less stealth based.

The developers say there are varied set pieces everywhere from start to finish so that you aren't just doing the same stuff over and over. Also, the melee gameplay will be a very big part of KZ3, with all new deep mechanics and brutal animations. Jetpacks, first seen on enemies in the PSP game Killzone Liberation, will be accessible by players in this sequel.

The graphic engine is getting a significant upgrade, in part due to help from Naughty Dog (Uncharted 2 developers). The sound engine is also getting overhauled to produce top tier SFX. The designers also confirm that there will be no gratuitous profanity like KZ2.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the first trailer for this one.

Move = more accuracy? Eh...

As for the controls, if they took the "weight" out that KZ2 had, I'm going to be super, super, super pissed. I loathed them for tweaking the controls for the CoD people bitching. Co-op would be nice, it sucked not being able to play with friends locally on one.

This all sounds better than I expected. Do you have links to these websites claiming these things?
