I *hate* that IE doesnt just append a www. and a .com on to whatever I type into the bar. I HATE it, but Ive not found any way to get rid of it going to MSN.com to search for whatever I type in. even when I set it to just go to the most likely site in the advanced properties, it still goes to MSN first before going there. is there any way to make it just add the .com on the end whenever I type something in?

Use CTRL+Enter. It automagically prepends with "http://www." and appends ".com". In IE4, it used to test ".net", ".org", and ".edu", but I'm not sure if it does that anymore.

Just in case you forget to use SUO's solution set your properties this way:

InternetProperties//Advanced//Search from the Address bar//Do not search from the Address bar

This way it won't go to MS to search. But true to MS's tradition, if it doesn't go to MS it won't go anywhere ;)

ya, if you use the do not search then it will try to find whatever you put in without the www or .com. how useless is that... thanks for the ctrl+enter SUO, not quite as convenient but it works at least.

Yeah, when you press Enter, it's hard to sneak that thumb up there to graze CTRL. :p

unegronomic at the least. a thumb is positioned to hit the space bar, and thats about it. so hitting crtl at the same time does require a bit of finger bending. stupid stupid MS... always have to 'fix' something thats not broken
