Killer tips for golfing

Anyone have some easy uber-tips for golfing? I'm going out to the range/course pretty soon, and i totally suck.

For one thing i'm always afraid i'm going to let go of the club since all my clubs are old and don't have any grip on them, so i hold them all really tight and that probably ****** me up.
 
Learn how to swing smoothly before you try for the power, once you get the swing right you can try push the ball further and further. If you just try and smack the ball as hard as you can it will just slice or hook right off the club.
